I once heard two songs back to back

The first said----I want a mansion thats silver lined

The other said----Just give me a shack in heaven

The Touch of the Master's Hand ... I know I am in the minority, but this song makes me cringe and want to scream...just something about singing the lyrics found below in church drives me nuts!!!!!! :tonofbricks:

And then he cried one give me one dollar,
Who'll make it two only two dollars who'll make it three,
Three dollars twice now that's a good price,
Now who's gonna bid for me?
Raise up your hand now don't wait any longer the auctions about to end,
Who's got four Just one dollar more to bid on this old violin?

When "Jesus Christ Superstar" came out, I was a senior in high school. Still, my parents would not let me see it. Anyway, my wife and I watched it not too long ago on one of the cable channels. The lyrics to some of those songs made me cringe like

Every time I look at you
    I don't understand
Why you let the things you did
    Get so out of hand
    You'd have managed better
    If you'd had it planned
Now why'd you choose such a backward time
    And such a strange land?

    If you'd come today
You could have reached the whole nation
Israel in 4 BC had no mass communication
    Don't you get me wrong

    Only want to know

    Jesus Christ
    Jesus Christ
Who are you? What have you sacrificed?

    Jesus Christ
    Superstar
Do you think you're what they say you are?

    Jesus Christ
    Superstar
Do you think you're what they say you are?

    Tell me what you think
About your friends at the top
Now who d'you think besides yourself
Was the pick of the crop?
Buddah was he where it's at?
    Is he where you are?
    Could Muhammmed move a mountain
    Or was that just PR?
Did you mean to die like that?
    Was that a mistake or
Did you know your messy death
    Would be a record breaker?

I understand why Mom and Dad did not want us seeing it. The message of the movie is horrible.

"Mansion over the Hilltop" always bothered me too....ughh :( It's one of those infallible inspired "Great old Hymns of the Faith", that some think are sacro-sanct....blech.

"Now when you feel a little prayer-wheel turning
And you know a little fire is burning
You will find a little talk with Jesus makes it right"

I've asked several folk(s) who have sung that song what a little prayer-wheel turning is all about and how do you feel it. None really know.

One said, "It's a Jesus song, just sing it." Wrong answer.
