Just wondering if there were any other songwriters here. I'm primarily a lyricist, although I do write the music to alot of my songs. Anyone else?

I write the songs that make the whole world sing.
I write the songs of love & special things.
I write the songs that make the young girls cry.
I write the songs, I write the songs.

    Wait...that's not me. [IMG]

I too am a poet & lyricist, but not much at constructing a tune. [IMG]

Ditto for me, and when I do try to come up with a tune it usually turns out, in retrospect, to have been plagiarized.

I think my strongest lyric is "Who'd Have Thought the Lord Almighty", on the women of Matthew 1, but the one that has been most widely used (including congregational use in Europe, and hymnal publication) is the Esperanto original of "Come Then, Let's Have Breakfast".

I’m a writer by profession and I regularly work at lyrics. When I get some lyrics into a rough form, I turn them over to my writing partner and she composes the melody and accompaniment.

We’ve done a few things, but I’d like to do more. I’ve been working on my lyric writing and we have a few works currently in progress.

Cool, BB, what kind of stuff do you write? Mine is mostly worship-related material.

I've written lyrics (poems) but not gifted to write music. Don Scovil, former music prof at Pillsbury, Maranatha, and now at Ambassador BBC put one to music and now in some hymnals.

Have great respect for real songwriters. Ron Hamilton, Frank Garlock with "Majesty Music" have written some of the most beautiful and Christ-honoring lyrics and melodies.

Too bad those enamored with CCM don't look to those men!

Joshua, my husband writes and performs his own music. "The Wedding Song" By Jim Tavegia click here

Angelfire no longer has 'web pages' so the music doesn't play anymore but all those are praise and worship songs.

Singing Cop! Thanks for that link!

Sure, but mostly in the more liturgical traditions. I think my "Lord Eternal, God of Ages" is a hymn.

I was fiddling...er...guitaring around on guitar one day and found a nice sounding chord that chord program says is a variation of a Gsus (3-3-0-0-3-3 for those who want a shot at it [IMG] ). I thought it was much too nice a chord not to try anything with, so I had a go at it. The end result is a 'moderny' sounding thing with a couple of very nice chords but no melody...I'ld sell a million huh? ;) Although to be fair to myself I did not mention cats ;)

A mate has been getting me to help him throw songs together too. I am up to the grand total of 2½ done for him. First one was basic G-C-G-D blues with a fill here and there that sounds like every other blues out there.

Next one was heavier with a Em-D-Em-G-B-Bb-Em mess that I most likely subconsciously plagiarised from an old Alice Cooper song (maybe a bit of a School's Out feel). Again no melody to speak of in those, just a lot of screaming and very poor guitar playing [IMG]

Most of the time when the urge to try and write lyrics hits me I just go and sit down and read through some Watts/Wesley hymns and the feeling soon fades very quickly [IMG]

As for music, well, I can guarantee I'll never come up with a Slane or Hyfrydol [IMG]

    Computer Junkie,

Yes, I have written one hymn, quite recently actually. It is on the subject of Christ's Grace, Mercy, and Love. 3 verses only, no refrain. Other newer "modern" hymns have included "How Deep the Father's Love for Us," "In Christ Alone," and "Wonderful, Merciful Savior." In answer to your question: yes.

I compose, too. Its a passion for me. I mainly compose children's music and pieces for multiple keyboards. I also enjoy arranging. Last Christmas, I composed a children's musical for our church since we are small and dont have alot of resources. Did an adult Easter cantata (mainly arranged, some original work) and another one that is half finished. (I had babies, and really dont have near the time I'd like for writing.) One day when my husband gets us rich [IMG] he is going to buy me a fancy Disklavier and some better composition software. (to go next to my white baby grand piano with a red rose sitting on top [IMG] )
I am thrilled to see so many writers on here!!

Right now, I mostly do arrangements for acoustic guitar, but I do write songs (music usually). Lyrics tend to come slowly for me. I've a bunch of songs that I've put aside as they weren't coming out doctrinally correct. Thought it better to put it away rather than continue with bad doctrine.

Haven't composed or arranged for any kind of orchestra or choir in a long time. I may get back to it soon.

I have written music for the piano, Brass Quartet, and a praise and worship piece of music.

The piano and brass piece I wrote while in college and taking an Orchestration class. The piano piece was called "Glenda" after my then soon to be wife. It was later played at my wedding. The brass quartet was titled "My Last Two Weeks" and was only performed in class by some of my friends. I liked it, the professor just sorta snickered. I guess you would have had to know about my last two weeks at the time to really understand it.

And finally, about a year ago, I wrote a song, based on the Hebrew and English text for Isaiah 6 for my wife's pre-school graduation ceremony. It is for guitar and voice and in praise and worship style.

Would like to do more writing, but finding the time is next to impossible. Now that we actually have a piano in our house, maybe it will be a bit easier.

I have one published piece - "Sweet Thought," p. 468 in The Sacred Harp, 1992 Cooper Revision. I have written a few other songs and a number of poems/hymns. I'm just an amateur, but really enjoy gospel music.

I used to write but I haven't in a long, long time.

For some reason, I've never liked to sing my own songs. I've always liked to tackle other people's songs more. Don't know why.

I've been accused of being a songwriter. I've put out a few albums and have been a working musician in the secular world (B.C.) and a worship leader who writes since coming to faith.

In the last few years I have been trying to pioneer a "new sound" in the messianic worship genre.

Is that too weird for a Baptist Board? LOL
