I like the Bill Gaither. I also like some of the folk from years gone by, like Sandi Patti, Doug Oldham, Gary McSpadden, Don Franscico.

I love southern gospel music and have travelled for over 8 years now proclaiming His truth thru song and preaching. However, I am not a huge fan of the "SOUTHERN GOSPEL MUSIC INDUSTRY" THe focus of a whole lot (not all) of people performing in this industry has gone to "entertainment" and "money, money, money" singing for the bus so to speak. A couple of years ago, we had a booth at NQC (National QT COnv.) Over the week, i visited well over 100 groups and solists. I asked the question "How's it going with your ministry" This was to full-time and part-time groups. THe responses I received were invariably "We just signed with...." Our song just went # on some chart" WE just got a new bus.....WE are booked 30 times next month.....Some big-time songwriter pitched us his song....etc...etc...- Finally on almost the last day, my wife and I sat down and had dinner with Aaron Crabb and his wife..He answered the question the way it should have been answered" Things are going great Jim, God is blessing and we are seeing souls saved every night !" Amen! Love southern Gospel Music but "The industry is getting a whole lot like country music.

It's just a personal preference, but I do not care for Southern Gospel music. However, a few years ago, a friend kindly bought tickets and invited me to a concert by the Gold City Quartet. It was in a high school gym up in Eastern Kentucky, hot as blazes, and we sat in bleachers but they focused not on having a "concert" atmosphere but a worship atmosphere. They did a song called "Looking for a City" and the musicians kept raising the key, while the lead singer kept matching it, getting higher and higher. He was red in the face by the time they finished, but he kept right up there.

The only thing I thought was a distraction was the commercial enterprise at the back of the gym, which I think could have been located in the foyer without taking away from the opportunity.

The Gold City Quartet and Crabb Family are great groups. I heard the Crabbs recently announced they're taking a break for an undetermined amount of time. I'll miss them terribly on the circuit ...

I wonder if he means Paul and Silas was singing Southern Gospel in prison...

    [IMG][IMG]

"I'm kinda homesick... for a country...to which I've never been before...no sad goodbyes...will there be spoken... and time won't matter anymore...
    Beulah Land..............."

Now I'm not making fun guys... I like that song!!
Squire Parsons grew up about 10 miles from where I grew up, and I love to hear him and his family sing.

I LOVE southern gospel. I have music by the Cathedrals, Inspirations, Gold City Quartet, Kingsmen and MANY more--including a few great male soloists. Women's voices are generally too shrill for my sensitive ears. They're the only part of my body that still works good.

My husband got this cd for Christmas. We were not at all familiar with Josh Turner so were reluctant to have a cd entirely of his music, but now that we have listened to him we think he has a lovely voice and would quite happily buy more of his music.

Thanks again for the help Joshua.

    Blessings
