Unlike you I'm not going to slander Calvin I'm just going to expose his name sake doctrine for what it is. It is from men not God. It is not the truth of scripture. Just because Calvin believed in Augustine is no reason you have to follow him.

The ESV is not in fact way more literal than the NIV. It is slightly more literal. The hype about the ESV translation principles as contrasted with the NIV is just that --hype.

I have found the NASB95 less cumbersome than the ESV.

    Where did glfredrick slander Calvin?

If you are going to expose anything it is your uninformed contributions concerning Church history.

Calvin did not believe in Augustine! He believed in Christ. Calvin highly respected Augustine but felt free to disagree with him on a number of occasions.

You're the only one I've heard that from. The ESV is almost a perfect translation. It is literal and readable.

John Piper has chosen to make it the standard for his ministry.

LOL! Are you for real? Almost perfect? Come on now. Well it is readable,I'll give you that. But it doesn't use very good English much of the time.

By the way, many foods are edible, but not delicious.

That's common knowledge. But as much as I respect John Piper's ministry through the years he has been rather extreme in his anti-NIV statements --to the point that even Wayne Grudem had to take him to task for some intemperate remarks. That's saying something because Wayne Grudem has been as ardent an anti-NIV/TNIV guy as there ever was.

I'm not anti NIV I use it and like it. Recently I have actually been using the NKJV the most. But I do recognize that the ESV is outstanding as do many others it is a very respected translation among bible believing christians. I do think the ESV is superior to the NIV for many reasons though.

Thanks so much for that encouragement, Bill. But I must add that I'm plain old "Mr.", not a "Dr." ;)

Thanks again, and God bless you, too.
