    In the thread, automatic licence plate reconginition, AV1611 JIM wrote:
    "I have a bigger beef with the vast MAJORITY who exceed the speed limit with or without insurance. Everywhere I have driven from Montana to California, Oregon to Texas, and all points in between it seems that NOBODY drives the speed limit. I am sure there must be some, but I rarely see them. "Oh, it's only 5 mph over". IT IS STILL ILLEGAL AND DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

    Jim, I disagree 5 MPH over the limit may not be dangerous!
    Let me expalin:
    I teach the Defensive Driving class. First, there is a difference between speeding and excessive speed. Here is how I explain it to my class:

    "A few years ago the Interstate just behind this building had a speed limit of 55 mph. If you went 60 mph would that be excessive speed?" (often students would say yes) "No, it is not excessive speed. Today, the speed limit is now 65 mph so, if you go 60, you are under the speed limit. Why is it safe to go 65 in 2007, but not in 1997?" I go on to explain that 55 was put in effect during the so called oil crisis of 1974.

    Let me emphasise, I am NOT condoning speeding. Rather, I want to show the difference between speeding and excessive speed. Speeding is simply going over the speed limit. Excessive speed is going to fast for conditions. On that same interstate 40 mph may be too fast if you are driving at night and there is 5" of snow on the ground.

    A major problem also are those who are on the interstate and driving too slow.

    ==I could not agree more!! The road I travel every weekday morning and afternoon is a dangerous mix of speeders and slow people. Needless to say there are several crosses on the side this highway. In fact I have had several "close calls" on that road myself. A problem for the Highway Patrol is that the road is generally busy, and it is an old skinny, curvy road. So it is hard for them to turn around to go after a speeder or to find a good place to set up a speed trap. It is the slow people who are causing the major problem. The speeders would just go if they could but they get held up by people going 45mph in a 55 zone. The result is they get in a hurry and make dangerous passing choices.

    Then your skinny road is an excellent place for a radar speed camara.

    Disagree all you want to.

    It is a speed LIMIT not a speed SUGGESTION.

    Posts like yours just give lawbreakers justification.

    Law is law. Period. End of discussion. That is unless you believe that God doesn't mind if we break the law.

    Jim what I was trying to point out that your post"Oh, it's only 5 mph over".You said "IT IS STILL ILLEGAL AND DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
    was Wong."

    Yes, going over the speed limit is illegal, but it is NOT NECESSARILY dangerous, and as I stated before I AM NOT CONDONE such action.
    I simply stand by my statement that there is a difference between speeding and excessive speed.

    Jim, I have a challenge, I will take you on a one-hour driving synopsis. I think you would be surprised how many times God would be displeased with you (IE breaking the law)

    Better not. It would probably damage him psychologically.

    And Jim, In Matt 7:2 we are told not to judge, unless we are willing to be judged accordingly. You'd best turn in your drivers license.

    Most of the time when a speeder passes me, you can bet there is a Jesus fish on the car. What a witness...Jesus believes it is ok to break the law.

    Magnetic Poles;
    I agree. What a witness.

    Hillclimber;
    We are also told to judge righteous judment. We are NOT told to judge PEOPLE but to judge ACTIONS. This is what I am doing. The ACTION of speeding is wrong and unless you can show me in the Bible where God says it is ok to break the law then I stand by my words.

    Salty;
    Bring it on fella! I accept your challenge. You turf or mine?

    Possibly Florida this spring. Meet me there?:laugh: :laugh: :wavey: :thumbs:

    Actually this would work well since I assume that you are no more familiar with Florida traffic laws than I am. (grin)

    Do you know anybody that ever got a ticket
    for speeding & delay of traffic on the same ticket?
    Seems to me if the speed limit is 50MPH and everybody
    is doing 60MPH then doing 55MPH would get you both
    items on the ticket for you are going over the posted speed
    limit and slowing everybody down (if it is a crowed highway).

    Yeah, I noticed that too. Every single time someone passes me they have a Jesus fish on their car. Isnt that something? What a coincidence. Why is that?

    But seriously folks, I drive two hours a day (one hour each way back and forth to work) and this is my experience.

    Without a doubt the most agressive drivers are (are you ready for this?)

    White males in full sized pick-up trucks.

    I suppose that the person who feels put upon and disrespected by the world, feels more adequate in a large pick-up truck.

    Or it could just be cultural. Once, when I was explaining to a Texas County Judge why a county employee running a stop sign and t-boning a car filled with little old ladies was bad for their insurance premium, he remarked;

    "Pick-up trucks have the right of way in Van Zandt county."

    You said it. As you judge others "actions" you shall be judged, so don't ever speed, or perform a rolling stop, or cheat a yellow light, because I'm sure you're just as righteous in these areas also.
