Acts 5:14 And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, 15 so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them. 16 Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.

Even Peter's SHADOW healed the sick! ALL were healed! There is nothing like this today!

My dad had cancer (which is below the skin) just about 25 years ago. He went to the Mayo clinic in Rochester, MN and they told him that if he waited much longer he would have been dead.
The Mayo clinic did and redid tests to verify.

Evidently they weren't too sure of that "much longer he would have been dead" diagnosis if they "did and redid tests to verify."

When he returned to the Mayo clinic for treatment, he was healed. The Mayo clinic did and redid more tests and verified that he was indeed healed.

The team of doctors were amazed.

He had cancer one day and then didn't have it a few of days later.

I will venture to say that the type of "healing" you describe is what makes flamboyant 'faith healers' saturated with the power they have over the people who listen to them, and the perks and money it brings in.

I will ask one more thing... Where is your dad to day, after these 25 years? If he is alive, has he had any more diseases? If deceased, what did he die from?
</font>[/QUOTE]You don't seem to want to answer these questions for 'some' reason. Does this put a dent in your fantastic "miracle" story?

    Alcott,

As far as the cases I sited, all were acknowledged by medical personel at the time. The ruptured aorta one was airlifted from here to Chattanooga (Memorial Hospital). They had already shaved his chest for surgery, but the surgeon wanted a fresh scan to go by. The rupture was gone. The scan done an hour before had it on it (the hospital did multiple scans from various angles to be sure that it was a rupture). And, yes, the man is still alive today, and very active in ministry.

The torn rotator cup? I go to church with the man. The doctor had already scheduled surgery because of the severity of the pain. Another man in our church had the same problem, but God only healed one of them.

I never said that some one healed them, as by a gift, but that God healed them, according to His will. God can, and does, still work His miracles in our world today.

    In Christ,

A fellow student from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary who was 55 at the time and a practicing doctor at one of the best hospitals in Houston told our class that he has seen a number of times when he has seen people healed. That was from a licensed M.D. in practice for many years and then decided to attend seminary late in life after becoming a Christian. I asked my wife who knew him and told me he was an excelent doctor.

Welcome to BB, jmloy. His Word is never wrong; but one's interpretation of it is often wrong, and in this case I believe it is yours. Your first mistake was to stop at verse 7, making it appear that all the gifts were for all believers, when the following verses say the very opposite. Your second mistake, is not to continue on reading into chapter 13, where you come to verse 8, and it mentions three specific gifts that will indeed cease; and I believe they already have. In this context, and for the reasons given why they have ceased I believe that the gifts of the Spirit were for the first century--the Apostolic Age, and not for today.

Now your third mistake is that you are a Pentecostal posting in a Baptist only forum. There are forums on this board where you can post (like Other Religions), but this forum is not one of them. There are many threads in the Other Religions forum some of which are very active on this subject, so I welcome you to come and join us there.

    In Christ,
    DHK
