It is tragic enough that uneducated cretans (or cretins) have now made a fundamental of the faith that "If the KJV was good enough for Paul, it's good enough for me." Since they don't know and won't take a few hours of honest study to be able to use a Greek NT, it MUST be evil.

I was at a large ifb seminary conference last Tuesday and heard a first-hand report from a dear brother who is working on training pastors in his native Romania. Seminary profs travel many times a year and hold 3-5 day modules.

He was asked how relieved he was that the KJVo controversy did not affect his work. With tears he said 6 different US missionaries were now in country who were undermining the Word by proclaiming that unless folks used a translation BASED ON THE KJV, they were not getting the truth, were not even saved! Such vile teaching is destroying souls in the name of KJVo sect.

BTW, part of the Bible he uses predates the AV1611. Sad, sad story. I've heard that in Mexico and South America it is the same thing. And such translations, based ON a translation and not on the Word of God, are bound to be weak and pathetic in language. What are those dear folks missing that simply was vague in the AV and incoherent in a translation from it?

I do not worship the god who saves only through the KJV. That god is a golden calf.

I must be an educated Cretin...lol... since i've done the Greek study have the Greek NTs. Have weighed all points on all sides regarding the written words of God. Unfortunately have personal testimony of more spiritual growth while believing God preserved one book verses spiritual confusion while using many versions that didn't agree. Its a shame to hear what some folks who believe the King James Bible are doing to destroy people. Its also a shame to hear what some folks who believe in many versions are doing to destroy people.

I don't see any "spiritual confusion" among Christians over the various Bible translations. EXCEPT for the KJVos, and those who are filled up with arguments by the KJVos. Millions use the NIV or multiple translations while feeling no spiritual confusion whatsoever.

Dr. Bob, this is a shame. I have known many God fearing Christians who were saved using many other different versions in different languages. My wife and I know first hand the cruelty of the HYPER KJVO sect of the Onlyists, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Not only does it detract from Jesus Christs message, but from the principle he taught of "he that is not against us is for us". Onlyists of the extreme kind need to really consider that damage they may be causing before they go shooting off their mouths with unfounded "doctrines".

    AVL,

Even more, those deluded people actually believe the bull pucky that they are spreading abroad. 'Willful ignorance' run wild...just so man can say "I am right."

How can people attempt to limit God to a single, archaic translation? Do they not realize that He made the universe, all of creation with but a word? Do they not realize that He knows each and every one of us more intimately that any other being could possibly know us...including ourselves? Do they not realize that He knows the end from the beginning, and that all knowledge and power is already His? And, yet, they rant and scream that God retired to a park bench in 1611.

That there are people who would destroy the faith and hope of others by condemning them for not using the KJV is beyond outrageous. If I had heard this before I came to this Board, I would have passed it off as 'extremist' and sensationalized. but, now, having gone head-to-head with the heretical beliefs and idolatrous ways of the KJVO's, it breaks my heart to hear it.

My wife wonders why I get so passionate when I talk about King James Version Onlyism. She gets mad when I become outraged about it. I hate any teaching that is not founded on the bedrock of the scriptures, and I violently oppose false doctrine...KJVO is the worst of both catagories.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

If ya wanna use just one version, fine...but where is the SCRIPTURE telling us we MUST use only one version?

Its a shame to hear what some folks who believe the King James Bible are doing to destroy people.

If they TRULY believed the KJV, they wouldn't be destroying anyone. Unfortunately, more than one KJVO believes ONLY the parts he/she wants.

Its also a shame to hear what some folks who believe in many versions are doing to destroy people.

I agree, we should attack only the KJVO myth, and not the personal preference of others.

Isn't it amazing that the Bible is written in more than one language? But the KJVO's insist one. To use an archaic language is not at all representative of the way things were in the NT. The language of the NT was the common language of the day. It was not four hundred year old language few understood.

    Right, GB!

The AV 1611 was the most modern Bible of its day, although the "thees & thous" had started to become archaic. However, John Milton wrote in similar style. The main thing is that the English reader of the time could quite easily read both the AV and Milton.

I thank God every day that we have such easy access to His word. Knowing this, I both support projects to get Bibles to those who don't have one, and those to get people to READ& HEED the Bibles they have.

Dr. Bob, I read somewhere about 5 months ago that apostasy similar to what you posted was going on in Bulgaria and much of central Europe as well as in Rumania.(But I can't recall WHERE I read it!)

Seems as if certain people think more of their non-Scruptural myth than they do of spreading the Gospel to an area where Gospel-preaching has been notoriously lacking since before WW1.

I keep hearing about these horrible people that say you can only get saved with a KJV, but I don't really know any of them. Could you perhaps point me in their direction so that I could discuss this issue with them? I will be sure and do it with tears in my eyes so they will get the point.

Sadly, here is a recent example. In the October/November/December 2004 edition of The Flaming Torch (a publication that I cannot endorse), the following article is released:

Here's one of the seminal quotes that began a lot of the "One can get saved only from the KJV" malarky [from Enemies of Soul Winning, Chapter Five, by Jack Hyles (1993)]:

Hyles & his cronies influenced literally thousands of pastors into believing & promoting this "only saved from the KJV" thinking. If you've never run across anyone who believes this, then I'd say you are very fortunate.

[Addendum: While I was typing, it looks like Pastor Bob was posting an excerpt of the same remarks.]

Yes, and I had a Hyles pastor several different times. They DO, for the most part, promote this heretical teaching!

Dr. Bob, I understand the same thing is happening in Africa where thousands are coming to the Lord. The destruction is causing nothing but confusion.

Some day these people will stand before the Lord and answer why they slandered His Word to new or potential converts. Their souls will be on the hands of those bearing the false doctrine.

The KJVo people on this site have claimed that modern translations causes confusion in today's churches. Our church consists of many older people and many who just like their KJV. I have never heard one single word of confusion or one complaint against using a modern version.

The ONLY complaint against a modern version was when an article came out announcing the new NIV which has yet to hit the presses. This is a legimate complaint if the claims are true. A translation should be, just that; a translation.

Only until a KJVo appears on the scene do the confusions and doubts in faith start. Sad..........

Believe me, Lacy, it is NO straw man. I have sat under many Hyles pastors who have said as much. I have sat under many who aren't Hyles, but KJVo and have said as much. To sow such discord among those who are in need of salvation, or who have been saved and are growing is reprehensible, and these wolves will be held accountable one day. After the damage I've seen done, and having been of that position at one time myself, it can't come soon enough.
