In my last computer I used the combo of spybot and ad-aware, with AVG for anti-virus, and Firefox for my browser.

In my current computer I got lazy and didn't download spybot and ad-adware. I did get my AVG and Firefox. Because I got lazy I got a MAJOR infection! I think I got it all cleaned up, but I did a restore on my computer anyway to be sure. Now I have to go through the hassel of reinstalling everything. Of course I installed spybot and ad-adware before anything else.

I bought a Vista machine this past May. Microsoft has Live OneCare on a subscription basis. We are licensed for three machines so the whole home network is covered. It searches for spyware, malware, Tupperware, bots, dots and spots. The thing updates itself while I'm consumed with visions of sugar plums.....

I know, I know, I know... I'm now a Microsoft drone - their OS, their browser, their antivirus, automatic updates and all that jazz. I've also been free of all those pesky little things that slowed my old PC to a crawl. :type:

I still had my old machine online when I posted at the start of this thread. I have no regrets and the $49.00 for all three computers was, I believe, money well spent.

Annual. That's about $15 per computer. My son isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. If there were signs flashing that said LOOK OUT VIRUS HERE!! he'd respond with, "Oh, look at the pretty button!" and hit the link to maliciousvirus-dot-com.

When I say, for us, it is worth the money... it's worth every last dime. My ego isn't so fragile that I'll will hide in my closet if anyone complains about my allegiance to Microsoft. It's working without a hiccup. I'm satisfied. And by the way... I'm not making Bill Gates rich. He was there long before I owned a computer.
