States looking for ways to repair roads without raise gas tax

Yes, here in Connecticut the governor signed a bill to build a bus route from New Britain to Hartford, a mere 9.6 miles. They have already projected it will cost a 560 million dollars, that means it will probably cost at least 2 billion or more. If that is not bad enough, the state is borrowing this money.

Thousands of folks have complained. This bus route will have 13 stops on it, of which there is no parking available. It will probably take 2 hours to travel the entire route, which a person can drive in 30 minutes tops. They will take land from private citizens, and the work has been given to out of state companies. It is a mess.

Folks want this money to be spent on existing highways and bridges, but our Democratic governor and the Democratic legislature shoved it down people's throats.

Former governor John Roland who now hosts a radio show has been a big critic. He says this is all about giving money to unions.

In the meantime, folks are proposing new taxes and tolls to repair existing highways and bridges. This coming from the recent tax hike in Ct. by governor Malloy, the largest tax increase in our state's history.

I am so glad of the recent election results in Wisconsin, I hope that catches on here, but it is doubtful, Connecticut is by far the "bluest" state in the nation, even surpassing California and Massachusetts.

 

Since when does the government ever do anything that's actually simple or logical? How many millions of tax dollars will be spend in administrative costs? Ever look at the salaries of the administrators of government methods to solve problems?

How much of the revenue from this approach will be spent on creating red tape? How much of the revenue will be spent to coordinate data with homeland security, IRS, and others who need to know about our travel patterns?

And..............

Raise travel/fuel taxes to repair our roads and bridges.

-- Put up massive sound barrier walls along highways beside certain exclusive neighborhoods.

-- Keep America beautiful by planting flowers and bushes in medians. Guess that landscapers, establishing/maintaining these could be called "repairs".

-- Build pedestrian bridges over busy highways to connect walking/bike trails.

-- Tear up existing intersections to convert them to traffic circles.

-- Adding bike lanes. (what's the tax method for them and foot traffic?)

-- Adding lane reflectors which snow plows remove to be replaced again.

-- Turning natural wetlands into "cement ponds" during road improvements.

Finally,

-- Make sure there's at least 5 supervising the 1 standing in the hole with a shovel.
