Mr. Webmaster - Would you take a paragraph or two and explain WHY the Baptist Board was formed, WHEN that happened, and the evolution of the BB since then?

Many of us are going to celebrate our 1st anniversary with the BB soon and a brief history seems in order.

Baptist Board was launced in June 2000.

The guiding belief in the creation of Baptist Board has been the idea that an open forum for honest discussions will benefit all participants.

Unlike other Baptist forums, Baptist Board is not (and was not) funded or sponsored by any denomination (i.e. BMA) and it was intended for all Baptists. It was my hope that BB would allow Baptists from different backgrounds and experiences the opportunity to see over the wall that separates them. This was not an attempt to bring down the wall, but rather an attempt to bring people to a place where they can see over the wall from the privacy of their home (and screen name).

At first BaptistMail offered a message board for Christians and it became obvious that there was a great demand for a moderated message board where Baptists can discuss the issues they find important. However, access to the BaptistMail board was limited to BaptistMail members and the board was not designed well enough for heavy traffic. After a search for the most user-friendly BB software, Infopop's UBB was purchased and installed on the newly registered domain, BaptistBoard.com.

Since then, BB grew quickly. Within months we outgrew the capabilities of our webhost and BB had to be moved. So BB was moved to HostPro (Freedom 200 package). After 2 weeks of trying to properly install BB on the new server, BB still wasn't running properly, corrupting many threads and deleting member profiles (sorry Joy [IMG] ). Also, in just a few days, BB used up all the bandwidth offered by the webhost for a month. So, BB had to be moved again (and for those of you who never had a website, moving a site (and domain) is quite a task). When finally all the files were transferred to the current server, we realized that many threads were corrupted - so with heavy heart - decided to delete all threads (1,000+). Fortunately, we were able to save the member profiles.

BB had a new start in late-March 2001. BB's mission today is still the same: offer free discussion boards for the entire BAPTIST community.

Thank you for being a valued BB member and thank you making BB a fantastic community of true believers!

Yes, congratulations to Baptist Board for being number one on the Top 1000...but would it have happened if the Jack Hyles website hadn't been shut down?

    Just wondering... [IMG]

There is no question that the Jack Hyles site would be #1 on Baptist Top 1000 given that the pageview structure is significantly different for the 2 boards. Here you'll get to see 25 responses on a page (1 pageview and 1 count on Baptist Top 1000) while on JHN you would have to open every single response (25 pageviews and 25 counts on Baptist Top 1000).

Comparing apples and oranges can lead to surpising results [IMG]
