Is anyone here attending? I wish I could go. Mac will drop the bomb on the Charismatic movement and call those whom are saved in the movement to stand out and speak up! Mac is not being divisive he's being Biblical! I hear plenty of good speakers will be there, however as I recall all Reformed. Some non Reformed have some great insight on the movement and I wish they could speak. People like Hank Hanagraaf and Erwin Lutzer are two names whom know a bit of the movement.

The Charismatic movement blasphemes the Holy Spirit as sadly many in the movement are probably false converts and not truly born again. Joni Erickson Tada will also be there and someone whom has not been healed so she is a testimony against the movement. I wonder how his new book will be any different or better than Charismatic Chaos.

In no way do I agree with anything about the Charismatic movement, but would you be more precise about how they blaspheme the Holy Spirit?

Lots.... Lots... They do it all the time in their preaching and attempts to heal people with their so called gifts of healing. They claim that angel dust comes down from heaven, they have seen Jesus, have gone to Heaven and hell, and I have even met some whom told me they could see angels and devils in people because the HS had given them such power. I criticized a charismatic church and this person told me that devils were surrounding me and he could see them! Thats blasphemy of the Holy Spirits power!

I would love to go but California is way too far for me. Seems like every conference I ever want to attend is in either California or North Carolina. I guess us Midwest Christians don't get no respect....lol

I'm looking forward to watching the videos on this conference.

I for one am glad for preaching that is against the false teaching of the Charismatic movement.

The easy-believism nonsense and the sensationalistic 'have it your way Burger King theology' needs to be exposed.

How many are out there who have believed they've decided themselves into the kingdom and that by their 'faith' God owes them a meal ticket?

Thanks goes to arminianism and its adulterated children for this ridiculous mess.

Angel dust? I know it’s not PCP (and I keep thinking Crosby, Stills & Nash – but that’d be stardust). What is angel dust supposed to be?

I haven't read Charismatic Chaos. I'll have to pick up copies - I'd love to go to the event but CA's too far for me (so the books will have to do).

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is the knowing and willful denial of the clear and undeniable manifestation of the power of the Spirit, and the lying and malicious attribution of the same to the Devil.

The antics and doctrines of Charismania, especially in regard to the Holy Spirit, are erroneous, freaky and not even close to the Gospel, but it is not blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Well I would not call all Arminian bad as even Charles Stanley holds that a unbeliever can choose God. I do not agree with Stanley in this regard, but I love and respect his practical Bible teachings. However the HS grants the gift of Faith to the elect and they choose Him because He first chose the elect. I know that WinMan will argue till doomsday that I am wrong on this one, but his argument is one that ignores the doctrine of Total Depravity which he denies, unless I am wrong on this. I stand corrected at times.

I question your use of Arminianism. By that standard, if I were a post-mil non-dispensationalist Calvinist I could describe all pre-trib/pre-mil dispensationalists as Arminians (many do take that stance) but then of course MacArthur would fall into that category. Arminianism does not demand those perspectives just as it does not mean denying total depravity.

So, yes, you are mistaking on this.

Art 3. “That man has not saving grace of himself, nor of the energy of his free will, inasmuch as he, in the state of apostasy and sin, can of and by himself neither think, will, nor do anything that is truly good (such as saving Faith eminently is); but that it is needful that he be born again of God in Christ, through his Holy Spirit, and renewed in understanding, inclination, or will, and all his powers, in order that he may rightfully understand, think, will, and effect what is truly good.”

Everyone who disagrees with Calvinism is not an Arminian (Calvinists centuries ago used similar strategies to describe those who held to believer’s baptism). It’s lacking the spirit of love Christians (even while debating) should exhibit. I’ve heard it said that Calvinist is another name for “Christian.” If so, then Arminianism is another name for Christian as both imply saving faith in Christ.

I've been listening to Dr MacArthur's sermon podcast for quite a while now and he's been leading up to this conference over the past several weeks with some specific teaching about the charismatic/pentecostal movement.

Personally, I wouldn't attend this kind of conference. There are others which compel my attention and time.

I don't entirely disagree with Dr MacArthur's points about the movement and how aspects of it are in violation of Scripture. However, I don't think his points and commentary speak to the whole of the movements. Dr MacArthur's examples are often taken from extremes and are highly selective.

Several of my friends are in the charismatic camp and represent a diversity of viewpoints. We respectfully disagree about any number of points, but do agree on more than we disagree on. I've been on mission trips with several and have enjoyed wonderful fellowship with them all. I just don't see the warrant in hosting such a highly resourced conference to proclaim faithful believers as near heretics.

I also know of a Charismatic brother and we disagree often. However his tone is Christ-Like as his mannerisms. Some will say that I only want to surround myself with those that agree with me, but this is false. This brother walks in the spirit and is no heretic. MacArthur is addressing a great deal of the movement unfortunately.

I question the value of any conference that disparages a segment of Christian beliefs when there is so much greater need to just preach the gospel.

MacArthur is a wonderful teacher. However he is not perfect. I notice that Erwin Lutzer is not holding such a conference and he has books on charismatic theology. Regardless I hope to learn something about the "bad charismatics" from the book Strange Fire I will be getting for FREE in October.

Those who are taught to recognize counterfeit money are taught the details about real money. So spend your time studying scripture and not counterfeits. It will give a lifetime of study that one can devote himself to.

Who is to say that the shout, stomp, and spit antics by some is no different than the trickery of magicians and mediums imposed on people?

I am sure all of us have seen people who have responded to a shout, stomp, and spit preacher and when asked about what they responded to, there is not substance mentioned. It is about as edifying and good as though someone spoke in tongues. It is a response to the unintelligible.
