I was doing some work in the dorms at the school I attend the other day and noticed two empty beer bottles on a students book shelf full of change so I asked him what was up with this bottles on the shelf. He told me he didn't drink they were just to hold change.

How would you handle this situation?

Well, you can add your change to his and offer to split the benefits at the nearest ice cream or coffee shop...

Or you can leave it alone.

Well, unless the beer, or the bottles, or the change are against the school/dorm rules, there isn't anything to "handle."

In truth achohol was consumed in bible days as WINE. For the water was usually bad and wine was not real wine unless fermented in goat skins. Even Paul told Timothy to DRINK a little wine for his stomach's sake.

Most young people DO experiment with beer in their young life. The more you harp on them about it, the more you will drive them to do it anyway. The poster above is right, leave it alone, unless you actually see them drinking a six pack on the property.

I read your statement about wine. Could you please explain the following?:

Matthew 11:18-19 (KJV): For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. The Son of man came eating and DRINKING, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a WINEBIBBER, a friend of publicans and sinners.

I Timothy 3:8 (KJV): Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to MUCH WINE, not greedy of filthy lucre; (all emphasis mine)

I WOULD DEMAND TO KNOW WHERE THEY BOUGHT THE BEER. THEN I WOULD GO AND BUY A GREAT BIG JUG OF WINE AND CALL A PARTY ON BB FOR THE CHRISTIAN DRUNKS HERE AND THEN YOU WOULD ALL HAVE BOTTLES FOR YOUR CHANGE. [IMG]

I would say, let's not start another alcohol thread. It's a dead horse. There are so many on here that say the Bible permits a Christian to drink in moderation, but drunkenness is a sin, so why beat this dead horse!!

You are so right. But I refuse to let the legalists slip one by us. Too much potential for damage to ignore.

You are so right! I don't want to give the legalist room to wiggle either.Any time I can help someone know the sinfulness of drinking alcohol I will. Any one who is Saved knows it is sin. Jam 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Uhh, buy them a piggy bank?

I think in this case, it's sincere. The life of a college students is one where every penny counts. Using a bottle as a bank is not uncommon. I don't think you need to read too much into this specific situation.

"I don't drink'... yet the bottles had to be emptied somehow. Did he buy them empty?

Also, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a gatorade or some similar bottle?

Of course. We all know how someone who drinks a single bottle of beer then keeps his change in the bottle really wants to get rip-snortin drunk, right?

( at yet another example of fundamentalist extremism)

    I didn't say anything about rip-snortin drunk. I said it's sin.

If they're college students, they probably found them empty, would be my guess. To a college student, a free empty bottle is cheaper than a bottle of gatorade, and even a bottle of water. I was a college student once, and believe me, every penny counted, and had to be stretched.
That's not what scripture says. Scripture says "Abstain from all forms of evil". Regardless of the drinking issue, using an empty beer bottle as a change container is not a form of evil. If it were, I'd agree with you. I think that in this case, too much is being read into it. A college student using an empty bottle as a change bank is practically a matter of survival.
Aside from the fact that scripture disagrees with you, it was requrested by one person to not turn this thraed into a "alcohol/sin" thread so as not to beat a dead horse. I am attemptng to honor that request, as it has nothign to do with the topic. Kindly do the same, please.

    OK, philosophical question:

If a beer bottle falls to the ground in the forest, and no one is around to hear it, who begins the argument about it?

Here goes round 42 of "no one's mind will change."

I don't understand your reasoning? I have gone to two Bible colleges. If anyone would have had an empty beer bottle in their room just to put change in they would have been called on the carpet! For this to be ok it must be in the Baptist Board College, there anything goes. I would imaging you could keep your dope in one also. Is there nothing in this world that a Christian is told to abstain from in your eyes. Man don't you people read the Bible? Maybe you should read the Bible and stop posting soooooooo much on BB?

The top post didn't say anything about a "Bible college."

I would imaging you could keep your dope in one also. Is there nothing in this world that a Christian is told to abstain from in your eyes.

Of course not. Because someone with a beer bottle full of change in their room wants to smoke dope, too. In fact, the only reason anyone would keep change in a beer bottle is because secretly they wish they had enough dope to put in the bottle instead. As everyone knows, such people have NO inhibitions.

( again at the ridiculous extremism)

I doesn't make any difference if Helen [IMG] or Johnv [IMG] or anyone else think drinking is ok for a Child of God....it's still sin.

It's clear you are the one who needs to read the Bible. Or, get a real Bible to read.
