....New research from the University of California at San Diego looked at the impact of minimum wage hikes across the country beginning in 2009, after the official end of the last recession. The increases were the result of a boost in the federal minimum wage and states’ independent legislative action. The hikes significantly reduced the employment of low-skilled workers. The loss of work was far greater in those states which had the biggest increases in the mandated minimum wage.

Interestingly, the states which were required to hike their wages the most and experienced the most significant employment loss had less severe impacts from the housing crisis than states that didn’t experience large increases in their minimum wage. In other words, states with less negative impact from the recession still experienced higher employment loss among low-skilled workers because of the wage hike.

Yes, and Round Two is that illegals are exempt from Obamacare so now employers prefer illegals to American citizens because it is not necessary for the employer to do anything for the illegal in terms of a healthcare benefit. This also makes it possible for the employer to give the illegal 40 hours of work per week, whereas an American cannot get more than 29 hours of work per week.

Are you suggesting that cutting the minimum wage would help them?

Wonder how well you would get alone on a minimum wage. Are you going to propose your salary be cut to that level?

Actually, Obama is proposing more layoffs and a cut in the number of hours via Obamacare. The Saudis and American fracking on private property saved the American economy but the GOP is getting ready to dance to the tune of the wealthy US Chamber of Commerce and bring in countless millions more illegal workers to lower all wages.

The iron law of wages is that they will be pressed to the floor so it is just economics. Illegals are so attractive that they will replace minimum wage workers, and yes, the minimum wage will be lowered to attract even more workers from outside the country. We are competing with Chinese who make a dime an hour or so.

Look for the GOP to be turned out en masse in 2016 as Boehner and McConnell will doublecross working class Republicans to accommodate the rich and their demand for ever cheaper labor.

Minimum wage is just fine for teenagers; living at home.
Those who want to live on their own and have a family, HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY, to have the education and skills for a higher paying job.

People can't even get raises although prices are high. Yet millions of illegals are flooding into this country to accommodate the US Chamber of Commerce, a lobby of the super-rich who want very cheap servants for their upper-class lifestyles. As more and more illegals flood into the country, more and more people will be paid under the table and they will often make less than minimum wage. The national debt is about to collapse the economy anyway. Any price increase by any business means bankruptcy for that business.

Then start your own business and become that lobby of the super-rich.

Oh, the super-rich don't bother me because it is a law of economics that they will pay as little as possible. John Wesley once toured the home of one of the richest men in England. When he left, he noted that all that wealth made it hard for men to die. Catholic apologist Chesterton noted that rich people are dry, secretive, cheap, and dull (paraphrase).

But what I am saying is that business is so competitive right now that prices are low and wages are low also. The economy is not firing on all cylinders, as they say, and the middle class is being abolished by the Democrats. I live in an area of warehouses for big corporations and they are low paying--$10 or less. If you don't want the job, there are lots of others who will take it. Lots of times the work is so slow that you don't get 40 hours. Many of the workers are temps and not entitled to any benefits.

Even here where people laugh at the Democrats and enjoy life, the stores are glad to see you and no purchase is too small.
