Wow, al Qaeda must be the stupidest terrorists, no wait, stupidest people period, on this entire planet. Their purported goal is to shake the will of the western powers that have invaded Iraq, and to drive them out, no? Then can someone please explain to me the logic of the London bombings? No seriously, it is time to apply logic to these events. Please do not hand me the nonsense about these people being “killers” who do not apply logic. You do not become the number one terrorist organization without having some logic, no? We are expected to swallow that these people were smart enough to circumvent our billion dollar intelligence and air defense systems with box cutters, but they cannot play coherent cause-effect scenarios out in their mind prior to carrying out terrorist activities? I doubt that very much.

Just this week, it was reported that England had drafted plans to pull out their troops, gone, see you later, victory for al Qaeda, right? So we are to believe then that the orchestrated response to these plans was to blow up a double decker bus, in England. Now, can you guess what the most likely response to such an event would be:

    1) Pull the troops out faster
    2) Galvanize public support, thus keeping the troops in Iraq

Those of you that selected number one, I will assume you work for the Bush administration. Those of you that selected number two, good job. Now that we have established the enormous stupidity in the England bombings, the next logical front to examine is here in the United States.

Let’s examine the political climate here in this country just prior to this “attack”. Support for the Iraq War was at an all time low. People were unmoved by the President’s speech, dropping his overall approval rating to 43%. The drums of impeachment were growing louder with each passing day, with the revelations that the Downing Street Memos do indeed prove that George Bush committed felonies in lying to Congress and starting war without Congressional approval. Also on our political front was the Valerie Plame story and how it appears there is a good chance that Karl Rove committed treason in outing a covert CIA operative, who just happened to be assigned to uncovering WMD. Considering the closeness of Rove to Bush, if these allegations proved to be true, then how much of a stretch is it to assume Bush had complete foreknowledge of the revenge against Joe Wilson by outing his wife.

There are a few things that probably went into this terrorist group's thinking that made up their logic:

    1. Spain.

    2. The power of the media and the anti-war voices to use this as a "see, I told you so. If we hadn't got involved in this, none of this would have ever happened". As I pointed out on the Current Events forum, it was not even hours old, and the UK version of the Democratic Underground was already blaming everyone except the terrorists.

    3. The UK is the strongest ally of the United States right now in the war against terror that does not have popular support for the war. If you can frighten the people and shake their will when they don't even support the war in the first place, then you might be willing to defeat your enemy.

The bottom line is that they have taken a calculated, strategic, and political risk that this will cause even more political pressure in the UK to pull out of the war prematurely. It is the same tactic that they used against Spain. They won there. It is the same tactic they have used against America (beheading Americans). They have lost so far there. It is the same tactic they used against the Japenese and the South Koreans. They lost there. But, they also know that without the UK's support, the support for the alliance in all the other countries could crumble. Time will tell if they took the right risk or not. Hopefully, this will rally more support for the war and lead us on to victory over the terrorists. If not, then God help us all.

The jury is still out, my leftist amigo. Spain was defeated; England may be also. Your slogan seems to be millions for tribute; not one red cent for defense.

    bump!

I think it just slightly early to tell how this
will wash for bush..it may be just that, a wash.

My opinion only it looked to me as if Blair and Bush seemed semi cozy and I understand the situation but I think Blair got what he wanted
it was Blairs show. Bush and speaking for myself
seemed to be the lame duck President he is he,
did have a strong points with his condolences ,but
I think Bushes numbers should rebound because of
this slightly but the supreme court process is in
the mix also and that will help his numbers.

    sincerely Aslanspal

Cui Bono is not the rock musician who fashions himself mankind’s ambassador to the governments of the world. It is, rather, the question asked when an official was murdered in ancient Rome: "who benefited"? It is the question gullible minds have long forgotten to ask themselves following politically-motivated atrocities.

The state saves us the difficulties associated with asking and exploring such a question. Following the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City, as well as the 9/11 attacks on the WTC, the political establishment locked most Americans into one explanation: "terrorists." It is amazing that, for all the criticism heaped upon so-called "intelligence agencies" for their "failure" to anticipate 9/11, federal officials were able to identify the alleged perpetrators of these crimes – complete with photographs of same – within hours after the attacks!

Oh, not that libertarian stuff again. I thought we got rid of it when Peroutka was defeated. They wouldn't fight if they were kindregarten cops and were trying to get the class to drink their milk and take a nap. The 5-year-olds would boss the libertarians around. The libertarians want abortion and same-sex marriage and probably child pornography.

poncho, you overlooked the fact that terrorists really are stupid. How bright can a person be to strap bombs on themselves and blow themselves up only to end up in hell?

Okay, I don't like you, in fact I hate you, so to prove how much I hate you, I'll blow myself up and take out as many people as I can with me.

Even kids know to take their ball and go home.

Duh. If they really wanted everyone out of Iraq, they'd stop the murder and maiming, go play checkers or whatever, give peace a chance, and the Coalition would all just leave.

    Again, Duh.

"poncho, you overlooked the fact that terrorists really are stupid. How bright can a person be to strap bombs on themselves and blow themselves up only to end up in hell?"

You overlook the fact that they don't believe they will go to hell.

"Okay, I don't like you, in fact I hate you, so to prove how much I hate you, I'll blow myself up and take out as many people as I can with me."

Why do they hate us? Can you prove they hate us because of our freedom as some would have us believe? Can you prove that all terror campaigns are done by Islamofascists and that no terror campaigns have been done by globalist agent provocateurs and their "useful idiots"?

"Even kids know to take their ball and go home."

    Not all kids.

"Duh. If they really wanted everyone out of Iraq, they'd stop the murder and maiming, go play checkers or whatever, give peace a chance, and the Coalition would all just leave."

    The victors never leave. Duh!

    "Again Duh." [IMG]

"Conquered states.... can be held by the conqueror in three different ways. The first is to ruin them, the second for the conqueror to go and reside there in person and the third is to allow them to continue to live under their own laws, subject to a regular tribute, and to create in them a government of the few who will keep the country friendly to the conqueror." - Niccolo Machiavelli, The Prince

That still doesn't take away from the stupidity of blowing yourself up.

Yes, OBL issued a fatwa. Even though he isn't a cleric, his fatwa was sanctioned by Big Name Islamic clerics. For one. Go on any Arab media site or Muslim web site or forum and you'll see how much they love America. If you need links, I'll get them for you. Or you can just google and go random and check them out.

No, and never insinuated that in my post. I do believe globalists are in control of the money and power. I don't trust the government and I know deals are made behind the scenes that the average Joe and Jane USA will never know about. But there is such a thing as Islamic terrorism. To deny that is to not live in reality, IMO. History backs it up. Unless you want us to believe the globalists are behind every evil on the planet, every act of terrorism, every genocide in Africa.

    You got me there. ;)

Joseph, thanks for those links. It is encouraging to see some of our Muslim neighbors speaking out against the extremism and terrorism that is taking place in the name of their religion.

I've been told numerous times that anybody with Microsoft Front Page or similar software and a few bucks can put up a website Joseph. I will check these links out though thanks. ;)

Maybe there are some terrorists out there LadyEagle that indeed do hate our freedom and "democracy" that much I will concede. But as yet I am still just as unconviced that by giving up "some" of my liberties the result will be my increased safety and as yet I am still unconvinced that by throwing in the towel on our democracy or liberties just because some group of crazed people would use our democracy and liberties against us will result in anything that could even possibly be promoted as anything "promoting freedom and democracy" through the world.

Call me stubborn but I'm just not willing to start questioning the very things that make this country great and the people free because of a few extremist murderers would use them against us. That in my mind lends aid and comfort to the enemy.

I couldn't decide whether your OP was

    1. about the logic used by the "stupid terrorists" or
    2. just another opportunity to slam the Bush administration.

    I vote for number 2.

If I was a terrorist, bent on murder, I think I might use the same arguments to keep my target fat, dumb and happy until I could kill them.

    Old Regular,

    1. I never learnt good writtin skeuls.

    2. The liberals before Bill Clinton's PC crowd started it all, Bill Clinton and the PC crowd carried the agenda further and now the torch has been passed to Dubya. Simple enough really.

    I voted for 1.
