I have been Sunday School Director for less than one year, and would appreciate any advice anyone could give. Our SS has about 45-50 attend on any given Sunday. Our age distribution is rather scattered. We have quite a few in their 70s and 80s, and a few in their 90s. We have a smaller number in the range of mid 50s through 60s. Also, we have a ministry for young people who come from broken homes. The women do a wonderful job of giving them a couple hours of hope on Wednesday nights. The problem is, the population between 15-55 is practically non existent. I have tried to start a high school class, one for the twenties, and one for the 30s/40s. I go on all the visitations. We have reached out to the parents of the kids I mentioned, so far with no results. We follow up with people the church helps with food or a utility bill. One of the problems is, we are a small, modest income church, and cannot afford big ticket attractions for kids.

If anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears. Thanks.

Whatever you do don't give up. Keep trying and trying. Pray daily for the folks you are reaching out too. I have found that over time we may not always reach those were were trying to reach but that God sends others to us and we reach them. The faithfulness is rewarded in ways we did not expect.

That is a good question. At this church, it is about five more than sunday school average. Not many come to church and not sunday school. In the church where I grew up, the two numbers had a huge difference.

If I recall correctly a healthy difference should be around 20%. The fact that there is very little difference between SS attendance and worship mostly likely shows a closed church. There's not a lot of outreach occurring. For the ones who do find their way to the church they find that it is hard to become a part of the group. The church probably considers itself to be very friendly but unfortunately they are much more friendly with each other than they are with outsiders.

Have small groups another time during the week. I love Jesus but don't benefit from SS as much as I do another small group during the week.
