Hmm...some quotes from the late Molly Ivins about Iraq:

Nov 19, 2002: The greatest risk for us in invading Iraq is probably not war itself, so much as: What happens after we win? There is a batty degree of trimuphalism loose in this country right now.

Jan 16, 2003: I assume we can defeat Hussein without great cost to our side (God forgive me if that is hubris). The problem is what happens after we win. The country is 20 percent Kurd, 20 percent Sunni, and 60 percent Shiite. Can you say, "Horrible three-way civil war?

Oct 7, 2003: Good thing we won the war, because the peace sure looks like a quagmire. "I've got an even-money bet out that says more Americans will be killed in the peace than in the war, and more Iraqis will be killed by Americans in the peace than in the war. Not the first time I've had a bet out that I hoped I'd lose."

Guess it goes to show that some Texans were attuned to what was happening.

No, he didn't. The so-called terrorist training camps were in the Kurdish section where the terrorist were working with them to overthrow him.

Alms to the widows and orphans.

That's likely although that may have been the Iranians. However, that was 20 years ago and we, in the form of Rumsfeld, shook his hand afterwards and declared our continuing support. It's a bit precious to pretend surprise and outrage decades later.

What part of the treaty did he break?

He may even have believed he was.

    Don't we all?

Former, and we also assassinate foreign heads with some presidents being more gungho about it than others.

..."neocon plan for a global empire"?

Please, Ken, that kind of rhetoric reminds me of the blatherings of the Chinese and the N. Koreans and the former Soviet Union.

Terry, perhaps you'd better run along and leave this debate to the adults. Logic is not a strength of liberals.

Now, Dragoon, we must overlook little things like Congressional resolutions in order to keep this "neocon plan for a global empire" charade going.

I wouldn't be surprised if this "neocon plan for a global empire" thing wasn't the reason we entered WWII. The isolationists of the time just weren't as creative with meaningless rhetoric as some are today.;)

Considering the neocon godfather was a Trotksyite Marxist, that's no surprise. Trotsky was booted out of the Soviet Union, partially for advocating a rapid expansion of Leninism and a world empire.

And they do think like that:

'That's not the way the world really works anymore,' he continued. 'We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality.
