Just for a moment - imagine it.

How would it influence you if after, say, 50 years of living as a Christian, you came to the conclusion that it wasn't true after all?

I think the answer would depend upon what I then percieved to be the truth.

    Yeah.

I'm not trying to be controversial at all in this post. In fact, even the Apostle Paul addresses the possibility.

It wouldn't make what I had believed any less true, it would just be sin in my life that lead me to that conclussion.

Let's see, I am happy, I have a wonderful life and wife, I have enjoyed my job.

So yes, it would be worth it.

Or perhaps the sins of others in the Church may also have had an influence too?

But if we practice forgiveness for others as we are taught that should not influence us especially after that many years as a christian.
Doesn't matter what others do it matters what I do in following Christ. It is what the Word says that really matters.

Do I sense someone who has been hurt by someone?

But with some people, it is a very very costly life. They have given up homes, families, jobs, money and put their whole lives on the line. For such disciples, it would make a difference if they had given up everything for something that wasn't going to happen.

    1 Corinthians 15:16-19 .

Who says it isn't going to happen? Satan and Scoffers, so we hang in and receive a crown for doing just that.

I understand your point. But I've never met one of them who wouldn't say that their life was worth the sacrifices.

You overlooking these verses that follow

20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

21For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

23But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

24Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

    HE IS RISEN!

Therefore we will be raised when He comes for His church.

Continued from my post above, I think I'd be a naturalistic determinist, and to answer your OP, this, to me, would have to be devastating and demoralizing.

No, but I wasn't saying that. All I was saying was that even Paul addresses this issue in Corinthians.

It's very easy for someone to blab on about the warmth and the joy of being a Christian - if they have a beautiful wife, great kids, a smart house and a solid job. Such discipleship costs nothing.

Those people who show the real courage are those who stick to their beliefs regardless of how much they lose or how hard it is - even in the bloodiest of battles. And those are the people with a real testimony. Those are the people I respect.

No Paul was making the Point some were saying as the saducees taught their was no resurrection but as Verses 20 and on said Christ did rise and We too will rise.

Here is what Peter said 2 Peter 3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

We are to always keep scripture in our minds. Never give up on what we know to be true. Never let Satan win.

I'm not trying to discourage people or to be deliberately contentious.

I suppose, in a round about sort of way, I'm trying to make the point that it is far easier for some people to follow this life than it is for others.

Maybe you can clue me in as to where Paul talks about the possibility of Christ not being who He said He was. Maybe you're thinking of 1 Cor 15 that says we are miserable if Christ was not risen... but Paul's argument is that Christ is.

Or maybe you're thinking of something different.

I have not sacrificed like many have... and I am trying not to be pious, but as a pastor, there have been sacrifices that are made to serve Jesus.

I am not sure how profitable this discussion is, so I'll read your answer and let it go.

Those of us who have or are in the ministry have sacrificed many things. But nothing in comparrison to Christ Scrifice for us.
