Court denies appeal from Gitmo detainees

By MARK SHERMAN, Associated Press Writer Mon Apr 2, 11:52 AM ET

    EXCERPT

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court rejected an appeal Monday from Guantanamo detainees who want to challenge their five-year-long confinement in court, a victory for the Bush administration's legal strategy in its fight against terrorism.

Liberals are unable to stop some Bush efforts to defend my country.

Why don't these people deserve to stand before a judge?

The question is why do they. And obviously, according to the SCOTUS, they don't have the answer.

They're not citizens and they're not here.

Thats a strange answer. I would say they do because of basic human decency. I would also throw this verse out.

    Leviticus 24:22
22 Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.

Out of context scripture can sometimes be used to make a specious point.

When one reads the first 21 verses of Leviticus 24, your spin doesn't work quite so well.

The word you're looking for is "enemy combatant", not "stranger".

As for human decency, they are treated very well, considering the reason that they are detained.

Thats a great rebuttal, just say I didn't read the rest of the Bible and I don't have a good point. I suppose I should just be thankful that I was not born in Brownlandia and I am here and I am a citizen. Otherwise it would be perfectly reasonable for someone to throw me in a prison for five years without even charging me with a crime??? Thats a rhetorical question, btw.

Come on James - stop acting like these people were just living life minding their own business and the terrible US military just swooped down on their family picnic and carried them off to a prison camp. They CHOSE to take up weapons and they CHOSE to enter the battle with coalition forces and they got caught. They are being treated as enemy combatants, which is what they are. They have absolutely no standing in a U.S. court and no rights under the U.S. Constitution.

And while you worry about their civil rights, they long for the privilege of slitting your throat.
