Supreme Court upholds photo ID law for voters in Indiana

    The Associated Press
    Mon, Apr 28, 2008 (7:17 a.m.)

The Supreme Court has ruled that states can require voters to produce photo identification without violating their constitutional rights. The decision validates Republican-inspired voter ID laws.

The court vote 6-3 to uphold Indiana's strict photo ID requirement. Democrats and civil rights groups say the law would deter poor, older and minority voters from casting ballots.

    Yes, I noticed.

I was only 12 minutes ahead of you.

But, it's great news. Common sense prevailed.

    At least this time.

But it opens the way for voter ID laws in other states. It's critical in state with large illegal immigrant populations.

Texas needs to move in their next legislative session.

Democrats are primarily afraid they will lose the votes of illegals.

Yep. Some Democrats want the votes of illegal aliens and some Republicans want the cheap labor of illegal aliens.

Here migrant workers are paid decently for farm work, more then my husband made back when we lived on the farm, hispanics in factory work are paid same as everyone else. Some of each are illegal, every now and then we hear of a bunch being arrested. But as far as we can see their wages are protected, there are legal minimums they cen be paid. Most people don't bother asking if they legal or not when hiring them.

Must be different in your part of the country than it is in some other parts.

Some Republicans and democrats both want the cheap labor.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with allowing illegals to vote.

    Carpo,
Excellent point. Liberals often do that - get you off the subject. NO ONE is being denied the right to vote - unless you are trying to vote 5 or 6 times per election

If I remember correctly, didnt this issue come up because a women was a resident of Fl and Ind? and she had previously voted in Fl? correct me if I am wrong.

This is the law for hiring migrant workers, many of whom stay after farm work has ended. When they work in 'public' work (non farm jobs), they get the same as anyother employee.

There will never be an honest national election until we scratch the secret ballot. Post the voter lists from every county on the web and post every vote.

There will never be an honest national election until we stop letting the dead people in the cemeteries, and the aged, demented patients in nursing homes vote (by proxy of course....).
