Kids should be taught about other cultures and world religions...that is part of sociology. But NO religion, be it Islam, Christian, or anything else should be proselytized in public schools.

    Fire them all.

If that doesn't work, put them in jail.

If that does not protect the children from satan, then the death penalty should be used to protect the children.

So posting the Ten Commandments on a wall, or allowing voluntary school prayer in our Lords name is BAD, says Magnetic Poles.

Having paganistic poems and stories and the secular religion of Darwinsim taught is GOOD. Which in fact is exactly what it is. The atheistic religion having it's core foundations proven a lie from it's inception, and then over and over again. Having alternative lifestyles, such as homosexuality, taught to children as normal and fully acceptable. This is all GOOD and acceptable?

I say we allow our Lord's word to be posted, and prayers allowed as it once was and throughout our history! I say we reject the Devil's word and works. I say God is Good and His works would prove such, no matter be it school or otherwise.

The trouble, Ralph, is that the public schools belong to everyone, not just Christians. There should be no sectarian prayers there, as it only serves to separate and ostracize those of minority religions. Kids can be cruel, and after Columbine, Platte Valley and other recent school violence, you should see you don't need something else to divide the children, or give them reason to harrass someone who doesn't believe as they do. If you want the students led in prayer, send them to a private Christian school. You gonna be ok with a Muslim teacher leading the class in a prayer to Allah? I am not. Church and home are where you do that. You don't turn the public classroom into a Christian Sunday School.

A course that would have presented the Bible as literature and history, and that did not proselytize, was opposed by ACLU and People for the American Way.

"The Frankenmuth School Board in rural Michigan has been embroiled in a year-long dispute about whether to add a Bible course to the high school's class offerings. The board is in the middle of a national debate between those who advocate Bible classes, such as National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools (NCBCPS), and groups that oppose the classes, such as People for the American Way (PFAW) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Approximately a year ago, a group of parents and students asked the board to offer a Bible course based on materials provided by NCBCPS. PFAW and ACLU contend the course is an attempt to promote religion. "It's religious right people who want to impose a theocracy in this country," alleges Judith Schaeffer, deputy legal director of PFAW.

It amazes me that a "christian" would say that prayer doesnt belong. Then you ask does Ralph want muslims leading prayer? but this is exactly what the teacher is doing. so what is it that you are defending? do you think God is pleased with an evil religion that will send you to hell is being lifted up in this way? What does God think about whether or not we should be praying godly prayers in school or teaching godly principles? Is it your position that God is against this?

Your use of "scare quotes" to cast aspersions against me speak volumes about you "Rev".

Where did I defend Islamic prayer in school? Nowhere.

As for the question, I think God is pleased when we don't use secular institutions as our own private tool of proselytization. I hold to the Baptist distintive of total separation of religion and government. Obviously, you do not.

My position is that public institutions are not church. The schools belong to all...Christian, Jew, Muslim, atheist, agnostic, and whomever else pays taxes to support them. They are not the exclusive property of any religion. That is why private religious schools exist. I don't want anyone elses religion pushed down my kids' throats at their school, therefore I grant the same to others.

But that is exactly what is happening, other religions are being "pushed down our kids' throats." But Christianity and only Christianity is specifically prohibited. All I want is Christianity to be given equal time.

I don't know the particulars about if the case cited is indoctrination or cultural study. However, I want equal time in the sense that NO religious indoctrination occur at any public school. So you do want Christianity shoved down the throat of other people's kids at school?

The use of quotes is intended to emphisize what a christian is doing not to cast aspersions. I guess I could have colored it.

I didnt say you did. In fact my question was "Then you ask does Ralph want muslims leading prayer? but this is exactly what the teacher is doing. so what is it that you are defending? do you think God is pleased with an evil religion that will send you to hell is being lifted up in this way? "

    .

Please provide scripture to support your position on this.

Do you suppose that "Baptist distinctives are equal in authority with scripture? I ask because you failed to mention it.

The problem with this ideology is it excludes God. Why should a Christian have any portion of their life that excludes God. And to add unsult to injury you support Islamic teachings in the public school system which is hypocritical regardless of the intention. and it is a foolish endeavor to try to teach idolutry (Islam) and think it has no influence over the ones being taught.

Mt 12:30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
A government that is not for God is a government that is against God.

Again, I am not defending anything. I explicity stated I don't know enough facts on this case to know if it is really indoctrination or cultural study of religion. If it is the latter, I wholeheartedly endorse it. We are engaged in a shooting war with radical elements of Islam. I think it helps us if we understand their culture and religion.

Also, it isn't Islam that would send anyone to hell. I think separation from God would come from rejection of His love and mercy toward us, not from embracing Islam. Religions don't send people to hell, our own hard hearts do that just fine.

    .
Oh, I'm sure if I had time right now I could dig something up, but that is irrelevant. You asked what I thought, so I gave my opinion.

I didn't say, nor imply, any such thing. However, I believe scripture is not the authority in civil government, but rather the Constitution. The Bible details man's relationship with God. We are not a theocracy, therefore the Bible has no legal authority in the U.S. as far as civil procedings or statutes.

Never said they should. Of course, a person's beliefs carry with them all the time, you don't check them at the door. However, it is not excluding God to allow others the same respect in a pluralistic society that we expect for ourselves.

Again, learning about what others with whom we share a tiny planet, is a good thing. How else will we ever get along with one another? This isn't indoctrination, it is good sense education.

Using that scripture that deals with an individual, to apply corporately to a government is a major error, as well as a fallacious argument of binary reasoning.

You did say "I think" so I suppose that qualifies as "it is my opinion" however Im not to sure about the clarity of that.

But seeing as you are willing to present your "opinion" as that as representing what God wants I am curious if it is based on feelings, an agenda, or something you learned about God from scripture. I find it curious that you didnt have time to find the scripture to support it but you have had time to post twice in your lack of time.

Now THAT is a classic RANT! Way to go!

Daisy, would you feel that way if Christian material were used in the classroom, kids had to say prayers for a week and dress and ask like the disciples? After all, they wouldn't have to believe it...

and if their faith in agnosticism, or Muslim, or the Gaia Hypthesis, or Buddhism or whatever was so strong, what would be the harm of it to understand a bit more about real Christianity?

Not shoved down the throat, but I would like Christianity or at least aspects of Christianity like prayer to be presented in a non antagonistic way. If teachers are asked by their students what they believe I think they should be allowed to share their faith no matter what that faith might be. I believe that after school hours religious groups should be allowed to meet on school property and events and meeting should be allowed to advertize and give out information.

I would like Christian students to be able to pray and if other non Christians don't want to pray they can stand still and quiet. I think Gideons should be able to pass out bibles and if you don't want one then don't take one. I think churches and youth groups should be able to pass out flyers about rallys and youth revivals and if kids don't want to come then they can stay home.

Certainly there are times when a teacher should ask students to return after class time if they want to discuss something of a religious matter that does not pertain to the classwork. If a math teacher for instance was asked a question about a moral problem they should ask the students to return during a non class time to discuss it. But they should be allowed to share their beliefs and when asked why they believe what they believe they should be able to open a Bible and explain why.

I would fight for a muslim, wiccan, hindu's right to do the same.
