Did anyone catch the new Survivor show tonight? Interesting I was watching for the most part because one of the contestants was a Preacher. Guess what he was voted off the first show. My wife said it was because he was bossy like me. That hurt.

Survivor, ho hum. Only in the media could you take a bunch of more or less randomly selected people, set them up in an obviously artificial environment, subject them to various weird rules and staged feats of strength and so forth, and then have the chutzpah to call it reality television!

I prefer my televised entertainment to openly acknowledge that it's fiction.

Does Survivor teach a kind of situational ethics?

If I understand correctly, the weakest person is voted off.

Can you say... survival of the fittest?

Out like that one guy that smuggled beef jerky to the other players.

Can you say . . . professional sports league playoffs? Same thing.

Tennessee is going to rout Florida.

I am saved and therefore a Seminoles fan.

For our sake, I want the Gators to win, but I can't pass up an opportunity to enjoy a good Gator huntin' game.

Out like Zook's career after only 4 games.

In professional sports, a person and/or team is beat in a game. In Survivor, a person is voted off.

Out like Rex Grossman's accuracy against a real team.

But Survivor is, essentially, a game show, and why couldn't you say someone "voted off" was "beaten"? He doesn't win, hence he loses, ergo he was beaten.

Yeah, but the team decides who the least most valuable member is. The whole team loses and the loser of the losers is ousted. It just seems a little different.

Out like that one guy that tried out for Survivor just to meet girls.

My wife said that the preacher was going to be the first one to go... She was right!... Also there was a woman from one tribe that went skinny dipping in the water. Don't remember if she was from the preachers tribe or not... Good thing he went first to much temptation from the devil in my opinion. Preach may have been caught later unawares in a compromising situation. I've watched every survivor and the first to go are authority figures of any kind... Military... Policeman... And now Clergy!

If you don't believe in this senario have you ever read William Goldings Lord Of The Flies?... And they were children!... Brother Glen

You probably already know this but, Lord of The Flies is another name for Beelzebub...per my Bible.

Never thought of that but now that you bring it up might have been this appeal of the title that sold the book!... Good story too!... That was a while back!... Brother Glen [IMG]

I havn't watched suvivor on a regular basis since the first one. It is not necessarly the weakest one who is voted off.

The one who is voted off may be the weakest, but may also be the strongest as the ultimate goal is to be the sole suvivor and you just might want to get rid of the compitition early.

Okay, I don't know if it's because we are in different parts of the country...but, Survivor was on after the 19th out here. So, that guy is a Pastor huh? He was voted off for not being a team player, I think... Wasn't making enough effort to act in the groups best interest. He didn't seem bossy to me. He seemed to want to go his own way.

Someone on this thread said that they didn't watch this show after the first one....The first one the basist, deceitfulest person who had the most guile won. The last one... the show kept faith in...believe it or not. Nice to see people praying on T.V.
