John 19:28,30

that all things was now accomplished,
ὅτι πάντα ἤδη τετέλεσται,
hoti ehdeh panta tetelestai

that the Scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
ἵνα τελειωθῇ ἡ γραφή, λέγει• Διψῶ.

When Jesus therefore had taken the Vinegar,
ὅτε οὖν ἔλαβε τὸ ὄξος ὁ Ἰησοῦς,

and he bowed his head, and gave up the spirit.

Mark 15:37
And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the spirit.

Luke 23:46
And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said,

Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit;

Matthew 27:46
And about the ninth hour

Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying,
ἀνεβόησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς φωνῇ μεγάλῃ λέγων•

Eli Eli lema sabachthani?

2) When He Had Died

Mark 15:38
... the veil of the temple was rent in twain
Καὶ τὸ καταπέτασμα τοῦ ναοῦ ἐσχίσθη εἰς δύο
Kai to katapetasma tou naou eschistheh eis duo

from the top to the bottom.
ἀπὸ ἄνωθεν ἕως κάτω.

Luke 23:45b
And the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.
καὶ ἐσχίσθη τὸ καταπέτασμα τοῦ ναοῦ μέσον•
Eschistheh de to katapetasma tou naou meson.

Matthew 27:51
And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain
Καὶ ἰδοὺ τὸ καταπέτασμα τοῦ ναοῦ ἐσχίσθη εἰς δύο

And the earth did quake, and the rocks rent,

and the graves were opened.
καὶ τὰ μνημεῖα ἀνεῴχθησαν

Matthew 27:54
Now when the centurion, and they that were with him watching Jesus,
Ὁ δὲ ἑκατόνταρχος καὶ οἱ μετ’ αὐτοῦ τηροῦντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν,
Ho de hekatontarchos kai hoi met’ autou tehrountes ton Iehsoun

saw the earthquake, and those things that were done,

Truly this was the Son of God.

3) Witnesses witness

Mark 15:39
And when the centurion which stood over against him,
Ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ κεντυρίων ὁ παρεστηκὼς ἐξ ἐναντίας αὐτοῦ
Idohn de ho kenturiohn ho parestehkohs eks enantias autou

saw that he so cried out and gave up the ghost, he said,
ὅτι οὕτω κράξας ἐξέπνευσεν, εἶπεν•
hoti houtohs ... eksepneusen, eipen:

Truly this man was the Son of God.
Ἀληθῶς ὁ ἄνθρωπος οὗτος υἱὸς ἦν Θεοῦ.

Luke 23:47
Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God,

saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

Mark 15:40

Matthew 27:55
And many women were there beholding afar off,

which followed Jesus from Galilee,

4) Every man shall Leave Me Alone
John 16:32

Luke 23:48
And all the people that came together
καὶ πάντες οἱ συμπαραγενόμενοι ὄχλοι

to that sight—
ἐπὶ τὴν θεωρίαν ταύτην,

beholding the things which were done,

5) Five Vigils
5a) The Jews’ Plans Genesis 50:25,26; 45:5,7

Leviticus 23:32
Ye shall afflict your souls ... from even unto even (‘ereb’) shall ye celebrate your sabbaths. From after vespers until after vespers shall ye celebrate your sabbaths.
Kai tapeinohsete tas psuchas humohn apo hesperas heohs hesperas sabbatieite ta sabbata humohn.
Matthew 27:57
When EVEN was come ...
Ὀψίας δὲ γενομένης
Opsias de genomenehs . . .
Mark 15:42
And now having been evening already

since it had become The Preparation which is the Fore-Sabbath . . . .

John 19:31
the Jews then asked Pilate since it had become the Preparation

that their legs might be broken

and of the other which was crucified with him.

(Joseph) who saw, witnessed,

and his witness is true—

the same knows, that he speaks truth,

For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled:

A bone of him shall not be broken.

5c) Joseph withstands the Pharaoh Pilate Exodus 8 – 11
and thwarts his brothers, the Jews’, plans

Mark 15:44,45
But Pilate marvelled if he were already dead.
ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ἐθαύμασεν εἰ ἤδη τέθνηκε,
Ho de Pilahtos ethaumasen ei ehdeh tethnehken,

And calling the centurion he asked him
καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος τὸν κεντυρίωνα

whether he had been any while dead.

5d) Joseph Finishes God’s Providence Exodus 13:19

Pilate gave leave.

Matthew 27:58b
Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

Joseph went therefore and took custody of Jesus’ body.

5e) Josef Brings Jesus Out [Exodus 12:41]

John 19:39-41
Then also Nicodemus turned up
ἦλθε δὲ καὶ Νικόδημος: ὁ

having had met him (Joseph) at the First Night (of ulb)
ἐλθὼν πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν Νυκτὸς τὸ Πρῶτον,

and brought a mixture with
φέρων μῖγμα

of myrrh and aloes about an hundred pounds.

6) Jesus Buried with honour

Deuteronomy 21:22,23
..and he be to be put to death and thou hang him on a tree: his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him That Day. Cf. Joshua 10:27 ‘etsem-yom’.

Luke 23:55
And the women also followed after

7) Witnesses saw

Matthew 27:61

9) To further dishonour Christ

Matthew 27:62,63
. . . the chief priests and Pharisees the next morning that followed the Preparation met with Pilate and decided ... that the sepulchre be made sure for the third day ... sealing the stone and setting a watch.
. . . τῇ δὲ ἐπαύριον, ἥτις ἐστὶ μετὰ τὴν Παρασκευήν . . . συνήχθησαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι πρὸς Πιλᾶτον λέγοντες• . . . ἀσφαλισθῆναι τὸν τάφον ἕως τῆς τρίτης ἡμέρας . . . σφραγίσαντες τὸν λίθον μετὰ τῆς κουστωδίας.

 

10) But God Raised Up Christ and Exalted Him

. . . far above all principality and power and might and dominion and every name that is named.
