    Joseph,
One thing about your posts, they are some of the most straight forward on the board and hard to argue with. One thing you said that makes sense is that how a government treats its citizens is how it will treat its neighbors. We are very, very blessed to have been chosen to have been born in the United States, the country with the most liberty and kindess that ever has or will exist.

Also, it is true we have to stand against the evil of any given generation. The best example in recent history is WW2. Talking to my dad the other day, he related how there were sometimes several hundred killed in a day, on some occasions, with the big battles, several thousand. Americans are a different breed today, do not have the patience or fortitude of that generation. In a way, I think my generation is the blame for where we are today by the way we treated Vietnam.

The only disagreement that I may have with you is the fact that there are some people or societies where democracy will not work. Maybe in the future, but some people are so savage or so timid as a group, it takes time to learn to make democracy work. It cannot be forced upon them in an instant of time.

I agree with you that democracy cannot be forced upon a society. The very nature of democracy works against that. I disagree with you in that I don't think democracy is being forced upon the people of Iraq. 8 million purple fingers dancing in the streets in the face of terrorist attacks and death threats prove that in my mind.

Ok, I have to give you that. Despite all the things against them, 8.5 million Iraqis did vote in the January elections; almost 10 million voted in the October referendum on the new constitution.

Looks like they are expecting record breaking turnouts for the December 15 elections also. Many Sunni Arabs realize they erred in boycotting the January elections and are likely to vote in far larger numbers on December 15. I also did some reading where no police station has abandoned the building since early 05. This of course is an improvement from taking off their uniforms and leaving via the backway. They have a momentus task but they are trying.
