You couldn't make it up. I'm surprised this hasn't registered on the radar here yet. I suppose she got off lightly - don't forget that these are the same bunch who've given us the Darfur genocide - she could have got 40 lashes and then been deported to Darfur to take her chances with the rest of the rapidly-diminishing population there....

This reaction is way over the line.

I wonder if Christians would say nothing if a bear was named Jesus. I wonder if Jews would say nothing if a bear was named Moses.

Some are now calling for her to die over this.

Ken, I think we'd have something to say, yes. But that's very different to locking people up or threatening them with 40 lashes. I think my response, as a Christian, to someone calling their teddy Jesus, would be the typically English Anglican one of: "Er...sorry, but would you mind awfully rethinking that name as I find it a tad offensive", and not "God is great! You must die or at least be beaten viciously. Infidel! Death to the West!"

This whole incident is so outrageous that for once I am at a loss for words. I dont know how to deal with this type of mentality. Deportation is the best thing to ever happen to this teacher and probably the worst thing for the young children thet were under her tutelage. I cant believe the we dont hear anything from the more "peaceful, moderate" Muslims of the world if there is such a thing.

If your 5 year old grandaughter named her Teddy Bear "Jesus", are you going to tell me that you would be offended by that?

"For example, Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, branded the decision a "gross over-reaction from Sudanese authorities". "

"But it is also heartening to see the inter-faith response to Mrs Gibbons’s predicament, with both Christian and Muslim leaders in Liverpool issuing a joint appeal for her release."

Yea, every news channel I have seen is reporting that moderate muslims are speaking out against this. They should do this more often about a great many issues.

Sadly, this woman will have a price on her head.

    The Sudanese national motto:
"Welcome to Sudan. Please set your clocks back thirteen hundred years."

the sudanese radicals are the "crazy uncle" of the Islamic world. They and their Taliban and Wahabi brethren are a danger to civilization.

from what I've been seeing and hearing she allowed the children to name the teddy bear mohammed, now these are muslim children from muslim families, why would they even think of that and why would the authorities there investigate that, parents apparently not teaching respect.

Yes, perhaps they ought to give all the children 40 lashes to teach them a lesson.

The good news is that she's now been released - however she's only been pardoned which does not quash her conviction, which is still shameful.

Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. Ps 119:165

They should put this verse in the Koran somewhere.

That's the first time I've heard of anyone threatening to flog or kill someone over a teddy bear! The Sudanese must live on another planet.
