That's fine. No one was making a big deal out of his real Christianity, only his antics on the field. And that's all I know of him. That and his apparent disdain for the Door.

So does anyone know why he changed his mind? If you're going to publicly make such a statement then say why otherwise you make more controversy than you're trying to avoid.

If he changed his mind, he could have just met with FBC Dallas and explained why to them and they just move on.

Thanks, it is very interesting. Two thinks stand out to me about this controversy. 1) The warnings to Tebow are actually warnings to conservative Christians that the message that Jesus is the only way, and homosexualism is a sin, are not acceptable in today's society. It's not how he Jefress says it, it's what he says. As Christians, more and more, we will have to figure out whether we are going to take a stand for truth, or let the MSM whip us into conformity. I believe the 1st Psalm and Romans 12 tell us what we should do.

2) Tebow, despite all his popularity and high profile, is a young Christian. He made a mistake here, I believe, but let's not condemn him. We should pray for him, as he is under great pressure, and for the most part, handles it well.

 

Could we, at least 'til shown otherwise, accept that Tebow IS following God's will to maintain his platform as a star q-back and let his witness fall where/as it will as God leads him?
Perhaps he HAS bowed to worldly pressure, but which of you could withstand the multiple pressures he is facing without a blink or miscue?
Do we expect more from him than Peter was able to give; after walking daily with Jesus for 3years?

 

So has anyone said WHY he backed out?

QT...you are correct about Bro.Tim but we need to pray that God will give him the wisdom to DEPART from the kind of "advisors, counselors, or handlers" that would give him such poor and ungodly advise. I am drawn to the words of our God who says in Psalm 1: verses 1 & 2 when He says,
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Let's pray that Bro.Tim will stand tall for the Lord....and His TRUTH even when it is not popular or convenient! Personally... I could care less if he ever plays football again as long as he stands boldly for the Lord. I think that many times (if not most of the time) it is the "little" guy (by the world's standards) that labors in relative obscurity that may well wind up accomplishing the most for Christ and His coming kingdom.

You are at least PARTLY right

J-W-P...you are at least partly right (maybe ALL). While I don't think any of us are in position to judge or determine whether Bro.Tim should or shouldn't continue to pursue his position as an NFL quarterback (as a matter of the will of God)(that's between him and God), we CAN say with certainty that He does need to faithfully stand for the truths of God and His Word (as do we all!)( we don't, however, need to apologize or "back away" from exhorting him to do THAT!).
However, as the young Christian he is, under the intense scrutiny and pressure he is subjected to, you are correct...we are not wise to sit here in the "cheap seats" and take pot-shots at him for buckling under the pressure he is under. We do need , as his brothers and sisters in Christ, need to faithfully pray for him that God would help, bless and use him....and protect him form the hideous wiles of the adversary that we all have to contend with.raying:raying:raying:

This column by an ESPN columinst, while taking shots at Jefress, is more sympathetic towards Tebow than some of us Christians, and it portrays the scrutiny he is under. Personally, I am still praying for Tim Tebow.

I have listened to DR Jeffress for years back when he was at Wichita Fall. I enjoy his teaching and preaching. But perhaps he has fallen into the habit of becoming a "shock minister" in other words a bad choice of words. He could have used other discriptive terms or words but he chose Sodomites which according to scripture is entirly right.I wonder if in referring to a child being born out of wedlock would he refer to it as child of an unwed couple, illegitimate or would he use the "B" word.

This is pastor Jefress response from this past Sunday.

 

It's time to start studying the lives and testimonies of the martyrs throughout history to learn how to respond to the official persecution on the way.

In the mean time, the conservative giant needs to wake up and realize that debate will no longer win. They need to act while still in the majority, and simply force the Socialists and the faggots out.

 

Good for Jefress. This is a preview of what is coming in this country. The media will do their part in villifying Christians who dare speak against sin and homosexuality, and who say that Jesus is the only way to Heaven. They will portray conservative Christians as haters. The sad thing is, they will have plenty of "so-called" other Christians join with them in the vilification. I tell my sons they are going to have to take a stand in the years to come. But one thing that I know is when the real persecutions comes, and this is nothing compared to what I think is coming, the gospel and Christianity always spreads more. Christians that have their head in the sand and do not want to get involved or speak up are going to have to make a choice one day. A choice that may reveal their true heart.

 

When pastors are preaching what the word of God says, I don't have a problem. And he, in this response, said nothing "extraBiblical".

But as no one has yet to tell me why Tebow backed out, I'll post what I've seen.

Jefress has made some controversial comments in the past that seem to be in the news since Tebow announced he would visit.

These are the sort of statements I don't believe a preacher of the Gospel needs to be making.

Are there no people in his congregation or in the FBC Dallas community who are dealing with homosexuality? Do such comments help in ministering to those ensnared in that sin or does it push them deeper into it as the answer to their brokenness because the ones who should be presenting HOPE in the way of the Love of Jesus always seem to be doing just the opposite?

 

Again, if he made the comments stated above, what do those statements have to do with Christ? Preach the Gospel and not opinion. If Southern Baptist are truly concerned about the eternal souls of homosexuals, statements such as the ones attributed to Jeffress simply don't portray that concern.
