Hello! I am 14 and have recently moved in with my sister and her husband. My sister dresses acording to the Holy Bible and only wear's
dresses, long skirts, and sometimes coulotes. I have always worn jeans and even though now im ashamed of it tight one's! I was wondering if anyother teen females dress in the same manner? Or even others beliefs on the subject of MODESTY!

It sounds like your sister has set a good example by following the Bible. Perhaps, you ought to follow that example.

unless she's wearing THINK WOOL skirts it can still be considered as "immodest" you can see thru most skirt

as for modesty... get rid of your low riders as well as your tight ones(good to know you're now feeling guilty... tight is not comfy so it's obviously to attract attention) flares are good, but the butt shouldn't EVER be shown off LOL

    Dear Miss Ria:

God bless you dear for seeking to know what the LORD asks of us and to follow that.

I am 39 and have been searching for books, articles, resources etc on this topic for about 6 months now. Tee, hee. So many other ladies have studied it longer than I, but here are a few good resources I have unearthed.

Oh, btw, as you more frequently wear skirts/dresses, you will need to acquire full slips/half slips to keep them 1. from being transparent  :D and 2. from actually clinging to your developing woman's figure. They are EASY to find - Sears, JC Penny, WalMart etc. all have them. :D Have FUN! :D

I hope they bless you in your walk with Jesus.

Oooooo, btw, even though I am 39, I live with my brother and sister, too! :D

    God bless!

Because you see, I am a daughter of The King. [IMG] So are YOU, dear Miss Ria.

The following sites all offer inexpensive, modest clothes for families that wish to live a modest, biblical life. From Orthodox Judaism to Roman Catholicism to Fundamentalist Protestant Christianity, the religion behind these sites is varied, but they are joined together in their common mission to help families find the modest clothes that are so elusive in today's modern department stores.

Note: one of the things I truly loved about the above resources, even if I could go buy all their clothes, was seeing such nice photos of lovely different girls and women dressed in such a feminine manner and modestly. I think some of the resources have articles, etc. too.

The section by Lady Lydia is SO enchanting! She has so much gracious and lovely wisdom and has a LOVELY daughter. You might enjoy her writings. There are also a number of modesty articles at this site. Some have urls to other sites where an article is published.

Wheee! This one has a whole bunch of different ladies and young ladies pictured going about their weeks in modest and feminine dresses/skirts. It helps so much to have such pictures to get an idea of what to wear etc. Tee, hee. I've had to start an apron collection to help me with this! :D

Is there anything not Christian about wearing jeans? Not ultra-tight Britney jeans, just a pair of comfy flares. And what about shorts? Once again, not really short ones, just ones at mid-thigh.

I personally do not like skirts(btw I'm 18 sorry I'm not a "young" teen but until I'm 20 I AM A TEENAGER) and wear jeans/pants to church... and I'm female LOL

there's nothing wrong with wearing shorts or pants... it's just you have to make sure it's not immodest

Ria, I'm glad for your sister's godly influance on your life. Modest is called for in the Bible. I'm one of those "dreaded" dresses and skirts only people, BUT I don't set that as a conviction for anyone else. My input on this would have to be, do as the Lord leads you too. Glad to hear He is working with you. Always remember to follow God's word, and you can't go wrong.
    ~Miss Abby

I wanted to reply to some of your postes. Umm, I don't think jeans are immodest,(although it's very hard to find jeans that dont emphasize our butt's,and thighs. I think we can all agree with that) but on the other hand God thinks they are Me and my sister and fellow Christians we know go by the verse in Timothy 2:9, "In like manner also, women should adorn themselves in modest apperal, with shamefacedness and sobriety: not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;" and if im not mistaken the greek meaning of Modest Apperal means, a long, loose garment that is let down. Ladys I must say that we can mark out jeans for Gods meaning for modest apperal. God also says that it's an abomination for a womam to wear a man's garment and vis-versa! I am not that Bible smart yet, but these basic's I do know. I also want to say I dont judge anyone for what they wear or anything they do in there lives (after all i've worn jeans plenty of times) that's Gods job. Thank-you everyone again for sharing your feelings on this sometimes sinsitive subject! [IMG]

OK, i didn't really read the posts before me (besides the initial one)...
here's my opinion, you can argue over what's modest and what's immodest, but that's not the point. The point is to have some mercy on the poor guys.

It's not right for guys to play with the young female's emotions...
    and
It's not right for girls to play with young male's sexual stimulation.

I remember when I was 14-15, it doesn't help to see all the girls around scantly clad.

I go for comfort over glam... sorry if that seems to "rugged" and "male" but either God's given up on me, or He doesn't see the need to convict me of my horrible sin.

I'm certainly not a teenager anymore, but I am the grandmother of three teens and I believe that it is up to the parents what teenagers wear. In your situation, Ria, I would assume that it is your sister who would guide you on what to wear.

My grandchildren are Christians; their parents are Christians and they wear shorts and jeans. They are very active in their church and in their youth group.

I also observe the youth group at our church.
A couple of Sundays ago, they gave their testimonies after attending church camp. They were wearing jeans and the T-shirts that had the camp logo on it. In fact my husband and I bought a couple of their T-Shirts to wear in support of them. Our youth are the talk of our town because of their dedication to the work of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus. They will be going out of state next week on a mission trip to conduct Vacation Bible Schools and they will be wearing their jeans (and maybe modest shorts) as it is very warm here.

My mother was a very strict Christian woman and years ago, she allowed me to wear shorts and jeans as long as they were modest.

Unashamed, I do hope you are jesting about being sinful in your modest jeans.

Ria, we all respect Abby's opinion also as she has made the decision for herself and shows God's glory through her posts. She does not condemn anyone for not doing as she does. I think attitude is very important. We should share the gospel with others without making them feel that they have to dress a certain way in order to show their love for our Jesus and their honor for Him.

    Thankful:
Thank-you for your post and im very happy that the teens are doing so well in your town! I live in the southern part of florida and it is VERY hot here. However I have never seen a pair of modest shorts and i've worn shorts on many occasions. So could you please define what you would say to be "modest shorts". I mean after all if there called "short"-s than how are they modest? I've asked myself that since I stoped wearing them and I still can't come up with a good answer. Also I wanted to say that my sister doesn't put her convictions on other people. She is only trying to do what she thinks God wants her to do. Again thank-you for your post and may God bless you and your family. [IMG]

yes I was... I'm just tired of reading how it's horrible that girls aren't wearing dresses 24/7/365... a few months ago we had someone totally drag on us about it and it's rubbed me wrong ever since...

Well I decided to jump in on this discussion because we had a very similar issue come up in youth group a few weeks ago with summer starting and all. Our Youth Pastors decided that it would be better for the girls in our youth group to wear either long dresses that covered the knees or modest jeans. How I decided what is appropriate for me to wear is I think if Jesus was standing in front of me what would he want to see me wearing. If I feel that it would be acceptable for me to wear around Jesus then I believe its ok for me to wear. I have gotten rid of most of my shorts and form fitting jeans. Now I mostly wear longer dresses and less formfitting jeans. That’s my personal feelings

This is a big dilemna for Christians in my youth as it appears to be still. The dilemna is that young Christian girls must compete for the attention of males alongside women who do not dress modestly. And the immodest dressers will always garner more atttention.

    Warrior, I'd have to wonder about a guy that liked me because of my looks. {Which, LOL, I hope a guy can see more to girl than looks, cause if not I'm hopeless! [IMG] }
A Christian girl dosn't need that kind of guy. If she has to dress immodestly to get his attention, she's way better off without him.
She needs to look for someone godly, looking to please God.
Her godly spirit should be what draws him to her, not "Is she pretty?"

Maybe so, but Christian guys are still guys. Despite the fact that organizations like NOW have done their best to champion qualities of women such as brains and industriousness, scientific surveys and other related studies suggest that men are still responding to their biology - its looks and sex. This is supported by recent studies that have found that attractive women get promoted more and are usually paid better. Is it fair - no. Women, conversely, seek out love and security. Thats not to say that only great looking women get quality guys - its obviously not so. But the recent super successes of stores like Victoria's secret point to the fact that women are responding to the observed primal instincts of their male counterparts. As I said guys are guys regardless of faith and the sensuously dressed woman will get a man's attention Christian or not.
