ummm.. She is in 7th grade.. that's middle school...

And heck, I remember in my 7th grade civics class, we debated abortion... held faux presidential elections, etc... And that was in 1982.

In Robert's defense (and it pains me to say that), this particular school is called an elementary school and has grades K-8.

We wore uniforms in English schools long before 1939.

I think the reference to Germany was to Hitler Youth rather than the school system.

I was quoting the article when I used that nasty word..........duh.....anybody actually read the article? Besides, I was making light of a foolish matter. I agree with uniformity in dress. It does not strip anyone from their own belief system, but shows respect for their education.

Besides, if anyone had even read my posts, my view is "abortion IF necessary, but NOT necessarily abrtion." I don't see how that makes me abortion on demand as it has become.

    Cheers,

    Jim

RS, I totally agree with you. Likewise, elementary school is not the place for homosexual; global warming; United Way giving; illegal aliens; health insurance needs; need for military action in the Middle East and ect.

Lets make grammar school strictly Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic.

Still, my point being that 7th graders should be exposed to civic/political debates.. Like we were..

Most 7th graders are 12 or 13, and know more than adults give them credit for.

Kids should be taught that abortion is murder right along with the biological teaching of sex... and I know sex, dangers of sex, and abortion is taught in both health and biology classes in 7th grade, at least in WV.

So this student has every right to declare her opposition to murder, either verbally, or through pictures.

I agree. If kids were to debate more on issues like abortion, they would have a better sense of why they believe they way they do.

I remember when I was in 9th - 12th grade we'd have different debates in speech class & in history class. We'd discuss anything from homosexuals being allowed in the military, to abortion, to the death penalty.

One can always learn from a healthy debate & its fun (at least for me it is).

That my friend is what it is all about - too many know what they believe, but not why they believe it.

Mr. Snow, do you believe that life begins in the womb or that this little girl was just walking around showing a picture of a fetus?
