I was 21. I had a good friend who was moving to Europe with her husband who was in the Army, and they'd been living in a little apartment at the back of a very sweet, very generous Baptist lady's house, and my friend called me to ask if I'd be interested in the apartment. It was three rooms, fully furnished, and had a tiny kitchenette in a corner of the living room. And it was less than a mile from work, and in the same neighbourhood where I'd grown up. And...it was $150 a month. Those were the good old days!
about 20 I think...I went West to work as a governess. I would have earned more on the dole but hey there was NOTHING to spend money on .
