Nurses at the hospital I work at do not have to take the patient if it conflicts with their beliefs.

Quoted by williemakit: I have expressed to my wife the desire of not wanting to be 'kept' alive by artificial means. I am somewhat concerned, however, about how quickly she agreed that she would definately carry out my wishes.

    Better start runnin now!!

    Offered for discussion:
If a police officer were assigned to work the hospice and disagreed with what was taking place inside, should he or she be allowed to refuse to work that assignment on religious grounds?

No. He is a police officer. He was given an order and should follow it or face disciplinary action. He can "request" but if he is needed and assigned to that beat, then he is to do his job.

What about a nursing home aide or even food service personnel?

Same thing. Do what you are hired to do.

Should Christians or pro-life persons be legally protected from 'punishment' if they refuse to participate in what they feel in their hearts is murder?

If they own their own pharmacy, sure refuse all you want it's your store. If you work for a "chain" and it is the "chain's" position to dispense a paticular med, then do your job. If you refuse to fill the script, then yes, you should face "punishment". One of the problems with the pharmacy issue is not only are the pharmacists refusing to fill the script they are refusing to return it to the patient in order to take it somewhere else and get it filled.

Yes, I am pro-life. This, IMO is more than pro-life vs pro-choice. This is someone refusing to do what they were specifically hired to do, then getting protection when they refuse to do it. I guess I am looking at the big picture and asking how far will/can this go?

One could look at this from another persective.

The police officer is there to protect the rights of the protesters and keep them safe. Why would he/she refuse to do that?

What was the settlement money being used for if she was indigent and the state was paying the bills? Was the state paying part or all?

This case gets more confusing by the day....

True, there is a line to be drawn but sometimes it is difficult to determine the boundaries of that line.

Example: Here in Washington, grocery stores are allowed to sell beer/wine and tobacco products as well as Lotto tickets.

Should a Christian not work at a super market?
If one won't work there for "religious" reasons should one even go in there to shop?

    It can get complicated.

As society changes, the lines drawn in the sand changes. An older pharmacist might never have considered that someday some countries would give 'heroin' doses to addicts or write scripts to get rid of babies. Why should he have to throw away his degree just because we've become such a godless society?

A state social worker might be told to drive a pre-teen to a doctor for an abortion. If she is pro-life, shouldn't she be allowed to refuse to participate in that which to her is murder?

Wake up people! America is going down the tubes very quickly and Christians are so blind to right and wrong that we're allowing it to happen without a word!

A pastor at the FWB church I used to attend was very judgemental about members who had to work on Sunday, or worked where alcohol was served. Would preach from the pulpit against it.

Then his daughter went to college and worked at the local grocery store, and things weren't so bad anymore.

I submit, we are reaping what "Christendom" in America has sown. This situation did not get here overnight. Christians have had their collective heads in the sand for decades.

Just like every other government ever to exist on the face of this planet, America is founded on sand. Some of our founding fathers said that our form of government will not work for any but a Christian people. It is precisely because of our liberties that we are seeing what we see today. Folks who know not God cannot rule themselves in righteousness, and we should not expect them to.

So why the surprise at the results of the Schiavo case? I admit, this may sound a bit defeatist, but here we are. Reaping what we have sown.

Remember the law of reaping and sowing? You get what you plant. (seeds) It takes awhile for harvest. (germination) And you ALWAYS get what you have sown and in abundance. (harvest of more of the same)

    And with fleas comes worms!

Acts 12:23 Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.

Yep! Ever wonder where the worms come from when you die? From the inside of us. Parallel that with the US.
