Is it just me? When I meet new people, if they're from Texas they'll let you know it within about a minute. The Calvinists and KJVO's usually takes about two minutes. Why is that?

My name is Joseph Botwinick and I am a Calvinist...but not a KJVO or even a KJV-preferred.

    Webdog,

read it again. He was making a comparison between a Texans willingness to identify themselves as Texans and Calvinists and KJVO's willingness to identify themselves.

In the States I usually ran into KVO's and they were Arminian to the man ( person ) . The KJV bookstores advertised heavily that they were KJO , yet had many books which used other translations in the theology section . For popular treatments on morality with a biblical gloss the books were Arminian/Pelagian to the core .

I will relate a humorous incident that did not happen at a bookstore . I was having a meal at a restaurant and I noticed a young mother teaching her children things from the Bible . I commended her and then her dad ( late 60's) from the next table approached me .The very first thing out of his mouth was : " What fer version do you use "[ or did he say believe in ] . I said " The NIV , NAS , Berkeley , KJV and others . " But he replied " Ya ain't got the Bible unless ye got the King James Bible Son . " I then proceeded to use some common facts which he dismissed with a wave of his hand . " Son , the Lord is telling me , and He's telling you . The King James is the only Bible . " Now how is that much different than the Mormon who tells you ( after he can't convince you of his various errors ) " I believe the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true Church because of the burning in my bosom . " ?

But surely the man was ordained to beleive that the KJV is the bible, just as mormons are ordained to burn for all eternity. I could no more change my mind about the King James Bible than I could change my mind about the color of the sky.

Good one . My first laugh of the day . The sky is not one set color . You may change your mind about the KJ Bible over time , esp. if you are relatively young now -- are you ?

I am relatively young, and I realize that I could change my mind about many things. But I have already had my crisis of faith. I can see no compelling reason to change my beliefs at this juncture, but I am open to discussion.

To change your preference in Bible versions should not be considered a crisis of faith . It is just a change of preference in your Bible of choice.

I don't prefer the KJV, I believe it is true. You may prefer another bible, but I really don't have any choice.

In the next many years you will get challenged a number of times. So keep learning and growing.
