One of those 2 teams is superior. I don't know that we know which one. I don't see a close game. Whichever team wins, I think will win big.

The most important thing to that game, here in Houston, is that Reggie doesn't get hurt. :D

USC has had a tougher schedule and hasn't won as big as Texas has. Texas has smeared just about everybody.

There's just something about these over-hyped games. The media thinks it will be close, and when that happens, I start looking for a blowout. When the media thinks it will be a blowout, I look for a close game.

    USC by 2 TD's.

    USC 45
    Texas 31

I say it's too close to call, though I hope Texas wins.

I think ESPN is hyping USC way too much. Of course they did the same thing a few years ago by proclaiming Miami the greatest, etc and Ohio State stepped up and knocked them off. I think tonight may be a similar outcome.

I nearly changed my pick just because of all the hype from ESPN. Their poll on where USC ranks with the great teams in history was a bit premature. Let's wait and see if they actually beat Texas before deciding if they're the greatest team in history or not. But, the reason they did it was probably because the Mouse told them to do something to keep up the casual fans interest in the game.

I decided that although nobody can live up to the ESPN hype machine, USC probably comes close.

A few years ago, when the Ravens and Giants played in the Super Bowl, I out-thought myself by picking the Giants. I figured the Giants would be angry about all the hype the Ravens were getting and would pummel them. Didn't happen and though I don't trust the media hype, sometimes the hype is there for a reason.

I think that the holes in USC's defense has been made a lot more known due to everyone of their games being shown, hilited and every thing short of worship...and i think that Mac Brown will take advantage of that.

I remember back in the day when Mack Brown was at Tulane and all the grief he got from us LSU fans down here...and now he is coaching for the Natl Championship. I'll give him credit, he's a great coach. Maybe even better (dare i say it?!?!?!) than Pete Carrol.
I'm not sure if you realize this but he has never had fewer than 9 wins during his 8 years in Texas, and 10 wins in 3 of his last 5 years in North Carolina...that isn't too shabby.

    BTW...i'm going for Texas.

    Do what?

UCLA struggled with Northwestern and would have lost if it weren't for two freak on-side kick plays.

Oregon, the Pac 10's second best team, lost to hapless, QBless Oklahoma.

Fresno State who gave USC a game... lost to Tulsa!

    Arizona State struggled with Rutgers.

    Cal squeeked by mighty BYU.

Notre Dame was beaten by OSU in a statistical blow out. The scoreboard said 14... USC beat them by 3 and shouldn't have won...

...and that was the best teams they played. The rest weren't bowl eligible.

Comparatively, Texas beat OSU with the game stats suggesting that the Horns were more in control than the scoreboard.

Texas thumped OU... who beat Oregon.

Texas thumped Nebraska... who beat Michigan.

In fact, the Big 12 is holding up well this bowl season at 4-2 and were at least as good as the Pac10 out of conference all year.

In short, neither played a killer schedule. They were probably relatively equal except for Texas-Ohio State. USC didn't play anyone this year as good as OSU... not even close. The difference is that Texas consistently blew teams out and played good defense. USC had close games against lackluster competition.

Neither would have likely gone undefeated against LSU's schedule or Florida State's or Penn State's. But the current system doesn't correct for milk and toast schedules.

I don't think USC can stop Texas. Texas does have the athleticism on defense to contain if not stop Bush and Leinhart.

    Texas, 35-21.

Hype or no hype. The available facts suggest that Texas is the better all around team. They are every bit as good on offense and better on defense. USC and Bush have not played a defense with the speed they will face against Texas.

I will admit some bias... I hate USC worse than Texas... but the non-stop hype is softening my loathing of the Horns.

Anyone who can win at UNC is a good coach.

Football is still an afterthought... it's something mildly interesting until b-ball starts.

USC has way too many offensive weapons for the Texas defense to stop.

The USC defense had merely to somewhat contain Young to slow down the Texas offense.

I am sticking with USC - 52, Texas - 24 as USC has a three peat share of the mythical national championship.

Well, I don't know who's going to win... I hope it's Texas - but I think it might be USC...

Either way, both teams had better show up pumped and ready because if one of them doesn't the other one will and it'll probably all be over but the cryin...

I guess we'll all know in a little while... enjoy the game, y'all...

Since I don't like Texas, I am hoping for a 72-0 shutout. Go Trojans. Destroy the Longhorns! [IMG]

I like Texas, but I don't like UT. BUT when they play someone on the left coast, I have to root for them. State pride and all that, you know.

I think I'll really go out on a limb here and say that Texas has a 50% chance of winning!!

Actually, I think it will wind up something like 48-24, Texas over USC.

Watching halftime right now. That is one of the sorriest bands I have seen in a long time. Don't like the USC band.

Looks like more of a defensive game than many of us were expecting. Looks like possibly several bad calls as well, though fairly evenly distributed.

Texas has had a lot of strong second halfs this season, so that should bode well for them.

How do y'all think the coaches compare - Mack Brown vs. Pete Carroll? I always kind of liked Carroll when he was at New England, but I don't really know anything about him.
