Canon Five: Generally speaking, the reading with the widest geographilcal support is to be preferred over one that predominants only within a single region or single family.

Reason: Readings within small areas or in families (copies of copies of copies) may have great influence on each other.

Example: A reading agreeing in the LXX, Old Latin, Coptic Egyptian would not have as much to commend it as a reading from the far more diverse readings in the Vulgate and LXX or in the LXX and Samaritan Penteteuch.

    Thoughts?

It could be quite a daunting task to determine exactly where all a 1200-yr-old ms had been copied & distributed, especially if it hadn't been in constant use. Thankfully, GOD IS IN CONTROL to present His words to us as He chooses!
