The scholars who worked on the KJV were not above manipulating the text so as to include something of their own devising.

Psalm 46 includes a personal tribute to William Shakespeare (1564-1616), who turned 46 years of age just a few months before the publication date of the KJV. It was dedicated to him in honor of his influence upon the English language of his day.

Count down 46 words from the beginning of this psalm and you will find the word "Shake." Count up 46 words from the end of this psalm and you will find the word "Spear." Thus, 46 words down added to 46 words up in the 46th psalm will give the name "Shakespeare" in honor of his 46th birthday. Quite ingenious, but should men manipulate the text of God's holy Word to give tribute to a mere man?

I've seen this before, but do we have any evidence that it was an intentional manipulation?

It's an urban legend. While today we credit Shakespeare with an enormous influence on the English language (arguably greater than the Bible itself, truth be told), in his own day he was not so highly regarded.

Shakespeare was, after all, a playwright and an actor, neither of which was considered the most savoury of trades. Even many of his fellow playwrights looked down on the "upstart crow" since he had at most been to grammar school, and it was believed that playwriting was above anyone with less than a university education.

Funny word play, but of course, untrue. [IMG]

    Selah skewers it all.

Must be. I couldn't see them intentionally doing this. [IMG]
