Liberals, like those often found in the BGCT or the CBF and whom likes to refer to themselves as moderates, do not like inerrancy and often want to deny that the historical nature of Genesis 1-11. Often it has to do with their devotion to science over scripture.

They aren't the only one who doesn't like the word inerrancy, the SBC won't even write it down for all to see.

To have an Inerrant Bible, we would need to have a version with NO mistakes/errors/etc, and there are none like that, but we do have an infallible one, as it has recorded to us all that God needs and wants us to know in everyhting it discusses!

Either one believes the Bible is the Word of God or they do not. It is not a history or science book, nor is it subject to man's laboratory. It is a book of the Holy Word of God, and a book of faith. It was written to man out of love. It was not written for any particular time, it is as fresh and relevant today as it was the day the universe was created.

An inaccurate, ignorant, and pejorative statement.

CARM answers this question quite effectively.

Carm doesn't understand inerrancy iether. Innerancy is about doctrine not about scribal errors.Even in the current copies we have they are inerrant as there are no doctrinal errors in them. They are completely reliable and all the scribal errors are understood and can be fully explained. Any other so called contradictions have nothing to do with errors but are just misunderstood record keeping.

I disagree. So does the Southern Baptist Convention.

There is none. If you do not like the topic there are all sorts of threads you can engage in.

Actually, in reviewing, I don't think you read the CARM article thoroughly, and I know I didn't read your response thoroughly. CARM, you and I all agree that it is not about scribal errors, but about (as CARM states) ...

"The fact is that there are indeed copyist errors on the biblical documents and they account for many alleged contradictions. Remember, it is the autographs (original writings) that are inspired and inerrant, not the copies. The copies we have now are copies of inspired documents. The copies are not themselves "inspired;" that is, they have no guarantee of being 100% textually pure. Does this then mean that we can't trust the Bible? Not at all. The copies are so accurate that all of the biblical documents are 98.5% textually pure. The 1.5% that is in question is mainly nothing more than spelling errors and occasional word omissions like the words "the," "but," etc. This reduces any serious textual issues to a fraction of the 1.5%. Nevertheless, nothing affects doctrinal truths." [Emphasis added]

when i was in school, we were taught that Inerrancy meant that the documents were 100% accurate, that there wee NO mistakes/errors in every thing recording, regardless if historical data, scientific facts, theological/doctrines dates etc... ONLY the originals meet that criteria

the greek/hebrew texts that we now have to translate off from are essentially those same texts, its just that there are a few known mistakes/errors in their copying process, so that would make them and the versions off them infallible...

So that any english version translated in a proper way from them also would be infallible to us, as it still is God speaking to us in that Word!

And not saying that we have inerrant bibles today mean that one is liberal, or critical in their theology!
