We all know that the Bible is the written Word of God, as opposed to the evident Word of God which is Creation itself as in Romans 1, and the Word become Flesh who is Jesus Christ.

Now, was the written Word intended and put out by God for ALL mankind ?

    Your scriptures, please.

Again, if we can discuss this without nipping at each other, so much the better.

Whether it is or isn't makes no difference. We are commanded to preach the whole counsel of God and press its claims on those who hear.

It is evident that many have never heard those claims, and we also know that many who have heard have refused to submit to them.

The apostle Paul understood that his preaching of the gospel was for the sake of the elect who would hear and respond. But that didn't keep him from preaching it to all who would listen. And it didn't keep him from preaching that God commands all men to repent (Acts 17).

    Tom,

The question is: Was the Bible written for ALL mankind.
Not : Are we to preach the Bible to ALL mankind.

But thank you for your input, anyway.

    Hello pinoybaptist.

    No.

PS 147:19 He has revealed his word to Jacob, his laws and decrees to Israel. 20 He has done this for no other nation; they do not know his laws.

    Romans 16:26 (KJV)

But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

So, according to you, all nations is all mankind, and all mankind is required to obey ?
    Interesting.
But the verse says "made known", not "to make known".
So, is Paul saying that the scriptures of the prophets is already known to all nations ? During his time, and now ?
    Any thoughts ?

    Hello pinoybaptist.

I don't mind believing that God's word travelled the world. I believe there was world trade from the beginning, after the scattering from Babylon. Cocain has been found in Eygptian mummies and some of the South American statues look very much like Africans and there has always been men who travel.
If all nations, and by implication all people, have received the word of God, just if, then that means nothing. The very people He entrusted His word to, so to speak, were not given ears to hear it: Dt 29:4 But to this day the LORD has not given you a mind that understands or eyes that see or ears that hear.

Now? I suppose a caretaker cleaning the toilets in Mecca has a chance to hear the gospel but not much of one.
Fantastic work is going on to produce the bible in all languages and the internet is a great tool. Still, men need the right type of ears and eyes and a new heart before they can hear and see and love God.

and brings us back to the original question:

Were the Scriptures written to, or addressed, to all mankind ?

No. MT 7:6 "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.

LK 23:8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform some miracle. 9 He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.

    Simple answer:
    1) Was it "intended": No.
But of course our God is gracious and allows his word to be used by whomever will.
    So...
    2) Was it "put out" (better rendered "available"): Yes!

The 'but now' implies a change doesn't it, a 'but then' it was not so?

...and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead." Is this all the same as he commands all?

    Huh?

The Word became flesh, and dwelled among us.
    John 3:16-17, John 14:6, Romans 10:8-13.

Whosoever will may come..... 'tis Mercy calling still.

Your comment and mine are quite consistent with each other. The "whosoever wills" are the elect who hear and respond.

May we please not turn this thread into another Calvinism/Arminian debate?

There are plenty of those already.
