I didn't feel it was insensitive, Sherrie. I knew you were just teasing me. I know you well enough from these threads to know you would never say anything to hurt someone else. I was just making conversation. [IMG]

    News flash:

Authorities are investigating a pyramid scheme they allege has bilked online investors of dozens of dollars.

Jim D. Andy, head of fraud investigations for the Downtown on the Web Police Department, said several investors have bought shares in a business called "Katfish Korner," a fishing shop that reportedly opened in the closet of a downtown eatery.

"This thing smells worse than the stink bait they're trying to peddle," Andy said. "As far as we can tell, all of the assets of the business consisted of a dozen jars of old doughnuts soaked in hydraulic fluid."

Andy said several investors bought shares in the business and were told to resell their shares to other investors with the promise of recouping their investments through selling more shares.

Accounting is sketchy, but it appears that 12,349 percent of shares were sold, sometimes in trade for tomatoes and okra.

While it appears an itinerant Baptist preacher accounted for most of the sales, authorities are unsure whether he was the originator of the scheme.

"We're trying to find him for questioning, but he disappeared shortly after this came to light," Andy said. "He was last seen wearing a green-and-yellow clerical robe, but there are indications he may have changed into a pair of overalls."
