While my first passion (and formal training) is in theology and philosophy, I do love following politics. For balance, I regularly read the HuffingtonPost.com (liberal) Townhall.com (conservative) and watch CNN and Fox News to try and get multiple sides of every issue. For the past couple weeks, I've decided to pay even closer attention to the words of President Obama. In doing so, I'm amazed at how many times he directly contradicts himself. Yet what's more amazing is that the mainstream media doesn't pick up on these. Consider a few

You should preface your quote with the fact that it IS a quote from the article. Otherwise, it appears they are your words. Better yet, why not post some comments of your own.

This is the part that bothered me the most from the posted article:

How can Obama claim that he is a Christian, if he says Jesus is dead? Saying "Peace be upon them" is like saying, "Rest in Peace"
Would any Christian say something about Jesus, and then say, "May he rest in peace"????

NO... This shows one of 2 things...
He has no idea what a true Christian is...
Or his teleprompter has no idea what a true Christian is...

I know, what does it matter if our president isn't a Christian?.. after all, he is not elected US Pastor..

but to declare you are something you are not, makes you a liar.

And I have a problem with any liars getting elected President...

WoW.... that disqualifies a lot of politicians!

Like McCain... Saying he is prolife, when he supported Stemcell research...

Like Bush saying he is conservative, but was the first to introduce Fascism to the banking industry through his bailout....

OK... my brain is hurting... I am thinking tooo much.

Let's not jump to the "liar" accusation so quickly, Tim. A lie is an intentional deceit. The word "Christian" is not as fixed in stone as evangelicals would have you believe. To we Baptists, it denotes one who has had the life changing experience of being born again. However, the word also may denote someone who reveres the ethical teachings of Christ, much as one who ascribes to the teachings of John Maynard Keynes is described as a Keynesian economist.

If Obama is a Christian in the latter sense, is he a Christian in the estimation of most Baptists? No. But would he consider himself a Christian, and would many other folks do the same? Absolutely. If his understanding of the word is different than ours, there is no intended deceit, thus no lies involved. Rather we are getting into definitions.

Yet it is confusing. I also would welcome his views, rather than placing unattributed quotes.

a true chirsitan would never say Jesus was dead, if He were, they couldn't possibly be christian, none of us could. But to obama Jesus is apparently nothing more then a dead prophet.
so much for those flase claims to christianity.

apparently it has no real meaning.
seemed 'fixed in stone' in the bible. it has one meaning and one only.
It seems by reading your posts on this board, you are confused about what a christian is and what it means to be a chirsitna and obey God's word.

Not at all. If you would read before making knee-jerk posts, you would see that I said how we Baptists define the word is not the only English use of it.

Dictionary.com and any other dictionary will clear up your misconception. I am speaking of language, not theology.

As I recall President Bush was pilloried as a liar for years by the leftist democrats for repeating misinformation from sources.

Doesn't this belong in the Official Bush Bashing thread? This is YADA (Yet Another Derail Attempt). You should start a thread on this topic if you want to talk about it.

The only one trying to derail this thread is you. As is the libby practice on this baord when you all do not like the content of the op. The first thread is as I always post articles. This one is no different then all the others. But you can't find any legitimate rebuttal to the argument so you run around this thread with nothing but off topic posts. The post is attributed because there is a link to the article of which only you had the nerve to pretend you did not know.

No, you continually present a preface which is a clip from the article, which is plagiarism. It is also plain bad netiquette. It has nothing to do with if I like the article or not. In fact, I am interested in the links you post...but also in seeing your take on them, not just repeating the article.

Perhaps you can enlighten us....which verse contains the word "Christian", much less defines it? Apparently you need the Bible. May I send you one of mine?

Nice derail though. You should go back and reread the original post I made on the topic. You miss more points than the LA Clippers.

So long as there is a link directly to the article proper attribution has been given. You continue this silly derail . Grow up and learn what plagiarism is. And yest it has every thing to do with whether or not you like the article. That is obvious to everyone.

I don't care what you think...but you are plagiarising. You need to attribute the article, and a link is not sufficient. It is posted under YOUR name. You are thereby claiming the work of others as your own. Is this the type of scholarship you engage in? Sad.

I have made no such claim. That much is obvious. All articles are posted under someone's name. The fact that there is a link means in and of itself that the quote came from somewhere else. Libbies seem to be lacking in a little common sense. And you continue to work to derail the thread. I suggest you report knowingly false claim of plagiarism and move on.

I know plagiarists hate being called on it. But you have been exposed by your own actions.
