He is a person. God is a masculine noun. He is not a force or influence. He is God.

HOWEVER, "it" is a perfectly valid translation, since "spirit" is a neuter noun and its pronouns can legitimately be "it".

The Holy Spirit is the "Helper" the "Opportunity
giver" the "common sense wisdom" the "natural
    christianity" apart from the law.

Star Wars ..Luke Skywalker is panicing over his
high tech instruments...then the voice of
Obi Wan is heard "The Force Luke, the force"

Give up your controls and trust the Holy Spirit
    he is the "Helper"

The HS is not like the Star Wars Force at all. For one thing, the Star Wars Force has a "light" side and and a "dark" side. It is much closer to the Taoist belief in yin and yang (I give public talks on this). George Lucas is a student and follower of Eastern religions and New Age mythmeister Joseph Campbell.

Also, Luke was told not to think. God does not tell us not to think. We are to trust, but we can still think. Trusting the HS is not a matter of letting go of thinking. We are not rely on ourselves, but thinking and trusting the HS are not opposites.

Marcia I will not even begin to answer
what you said because it is commenting on
nothing I ever said but what you said.

I think you are reading way to much into it.
because you have pride in your study of
    George Lucas, So be it.

I know the Holy Spirit is full of solving the
problem or presenting the opportunity in a MYRIAD
of ways, pulling out all the stops to help you.

My comparrison stands because it is true there
are times when you think you can depend on all
the machinery of life but that still small voice
is telling you right from wrong is the final
    trust.

But you are answering what I said. You have a whole post here. [IMG]

SO you can see into my heart and know it's pride. Hmmmm.

But in the context of the Star Wars movies, I do not think the comparison stands at all, because that comment was made in the context of other comments about the force that shows it is not like the HS at all.

My scale on the Star Wars analogy in one
instance does not make a whole disertation..
You escalated the discussion with commentary
on George Lucas and "The force" I did not.

Holy spirit in this now is just using common
sense and I claim that and I take ownership
of my opinion and by all means do not try to impose it on you..and you of course can state your opinion that you can take ownership of..I will stand by mine and you can stand on yours.

Star Wars ..Luke Skywalker is panicing over his
high tech instruments...then the voice of
Obi Wan is heard "The Force Luke, the force"

Give up your controls and trust the Holy Spirit
    he is the "Helper"

I am using a post modern analogy and in no way
taking a jot an tidl attitude...I could use other
post modern analogy to portray the Holy Spirit as the "Helper" the Holy Spirit will relate to the Person He or she indwells on a personal level
it may be different for you because He uniquely
helps each individual in a special unique way.

I respectfully agree to disagree about the
scale ..you may see it as a 10 I see it as
    a one. imho

As for the pride comment it was a positive
comment to you ..like a person takes pride
in there work or have become knowledgable of
a subject. People chomp on the bit to give an
opinion on what they have studied, kinda
like being in a room with baseball fans and
in walks Willie Mays and I am his number one
    fan..and I just cannot contain myself..I just
have to say something or comment on Willie Mays
because I spent a lot of time studying his life
    and becoming a fan.

By the power and the help of the Holy Spirit
    imho

if you believe the trinity is a whole, and separate, then the holy sprit would be a he.
