I wouldn't say the SBC funds the 700 Club; I'm sure Robertson pays for the air time, just as he does on TBN and other networks.

It's his presence on a Baptist network that I object to.

Isn't Pat Robertson an ordained Southern Baptist Minister.
BTW the southern Baptist has no binding resolutions and believes in the priesthood of the believer and therefore cannot dictate what a person teaches or believes. I know "Pope Paige" does not like this , but that is the way it is.

Yes, that's true. (Although I would like to see instances of an SBC pastor being stripped of ordination. Once you got it, you keep it, it seems.) However, just because you call yourself a Baptist, even a Southern Baptist, doesn't mean you have carte blanche to do whatever you want without reproach.

The convention does have control of its agencies; International Mission Board requires its missionaries to adhere to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000; failure to do so is reason for dismissal. It is no stretch for the North American Mission Board to require some semblance of conformity (and Pat is way, way beyond the pale) from shows that it airs.

I doubt you'll see FamilyNet airing Nip/Tuck or Benny Hinn. That means it does make some distinctions — just not in the case of Pat. It can't just be money; I'm sure lots of televangelists would love to get the air time on the SBC network.

    Ahem, Mr. MatthewHenry,

Before I was married I was what you refer to as a "Penetecostal nutjob." Please don't lump all Pentecostals like that. I am a Baptist now mainly b/c my dh said if we got married we would be Baptists. I had no problem changing churches. My beliefs didn't really differ too much from the Baptists. The church I was a part of was conservative and fairly calm in our worship--no pew jumping allowed! lol Yes, there are a few differences but to me they are not that significant.

There are some "Baptist nutjobs" out there as well, but I wouldn't be so disrespectful as to say they needed to be locked up until the rapture.

Please have some respect for your other brothers and sisters in Christ--and yes Penetecostals firmly teach salvation only through the blood of Christ. Seems to me, that is what is taught in my Baptist church as well.

    Take care.

My sin nature really wants to take advantage of this easy shot here... :D

But, I will yield to the teaching of Holy Scripture and the conviction of the Holy Spirit and pass.

It is interesting that I constantly hear that Pentecostals are divisive.
Read what Matthew Henry just wrote on the previous post on the previous page, and tell me that Pentecostals are divisive!
