Having just finished reading the new immigration bill and all the pros and cons of it, there is one salient point that concerns me. The only problem with our present system is the fact that the laws already on the books are being flaunted and not enforced. So what do our reps in the senate do? They manage to come up with a bill even more convoluted than what we already have and suddenly it is going to turn all the illegal aliens in this country into law abiding citizens. $5000 dollar fine??? Dont make me laugh! Go Home first? Ha ha ha ha ha:laugh: . The ones who should be the most livid over this bill are the honest immigrants who have been waiting in line only to be stepped over by crooks who will only add to our jail population. We went from 700 miles of fence down to 300. What a sneaky way for John McCain to pick up the Hispanic vote.

$5000 fine? What illegal immigrant has that kind of money?

I'm sure Jose from Mexico City can come up with that money easily by saving up from his $2/ hr job!

This is a mischaracterization of the pay the illegal immigrants are receiving. They do receive a dollar or two less that native Americans but they also work over time for straight time. They are racking in a killing and are saving money to retire early back home. Their earnings while less hourly are by no means meager. They can more easily afford it than I could.

Well, in addition those illegals are not having to pay taxes as us LAW ABIDING Americans. Nor are they required to pay back taxes of any sort, though they receive many social benefits. Also, they do not have to go home first. They will immediately receive a "z" visa or card which is a pathway to citizenship and at some point will be required to return home, then back to America.

These requirements will not happen though as nor will the fines be enforced. As one Senator and others have pointed out, the laws which are on the book now are ignored. Which by the way is ample to stop illegal immigration if they were enforced.

This is an Amnesty bill all the way. They break the law and are rewarded, then are required to pay no back taxes or contribute to the social programs. No worries, we will foot the bill.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! pay us(Congress) the sum of $5,000.00 and you can be an American citizen! Step right up!
Do not fret the requirement of having to return home; pssssst, we will take care of that later in the fine print. After all it is highly discriminatory and inhumane to force people to walk home, as surely they may not be able to afford a car. Otherwise we will, pssssst, have the American citizens pay to have you flown home or driven via limousine. A word of advice, pssssst, if any LEGAL Aliens, I.E. those who went through legal means of becoming a U.S. Citizen, confront you about this just say "we have rights too" or "no comprende!"
Hear Ye, Hear Ye! come ONE come ALL, $5,000.00 for U.S. citizenship!

What leadership we have! Can I just have my withholdings sent directly to the illegal immigrants, this way we can avoid the middle man and maybe, eventually, it will cost less??????? pssssst, if you illegals will wait a little longer they will settle for much less, if any, than the $5,000.00. After all, such an outrageous amount is discriminatory!:tonofbricks:

They just invited another 15 million to flood to America!

    I wonder...

How does the amount of $5000 compare with what immigrants have paid historically for citizenship?

Hmmmm....... and who is going to sign the bill? Why yes, your hero you regularly defend, George W. Bush. If I recall, something about a pattern was mentioned in another thread, that is, throw out a conservative cause and turn right around and support a liberal politician.

This seems to come up every decade or so, and congress simply wants to put on the illusion that it is doing something. Never mind that it is completely unworkable, just realize that they have fixed it and we'll re-address it in 2028 or so, after the vast majority of Americas population is Latino.

The vast majority of these illegal aliens will vote Democrat, leading to the demise of the Republican Party as a national party. I don't support this new bill but at least the demise of the Republican Party would be one good thing to come of it. Hopefully, the GOP will be replaced by a party that will actually do more than just give lip service to the concepts of limited, constitutional government.

An unrestrained Democrat party will devastate the America we love. You all like to say that GWB is trampling on your constitutional rights, you haven't seen anything yet.

Well said. The Constitutionalists want to throw the baby out with the bathwater it seems. If they cant have Ron Paul for president then they will settle for Hillary Clinton.

I know that Ron Paul won't win the GOP presidential nomination, and I hope that the Democrats beat the GOP down into the ground from the presidency down to dog catcher in November 2008.

A GOP that is in league with the Democrat Party on most issues is hardly a restraint on the Democrats. It would be better to see the GOP go bye-bye and build a truly limited government party from the ground up than to maintain the status quo of the GOP as a Democrat-lite party.

Except the the Democrats are in the ascendancy and the GOP is headed for the dustbin of history with this new illegal alien amnesty deal.

Which makes no difference at all. It can't pass unless the democrats want it to.

It doesn't matter how it passes as these millions of new voters will vote overwhelmingly Democrat. The Republicans won't stand a chance except in a few regional sections. It won't surprise me if the GOP never wins another presidential election.

What I fail to understand is your insistance that Republicans be banished to the "dustbin" for doing the same thing democrats do.

At the very least, if you were interested in fairness, you would want both parties banished to the "dustbin". I'm not following your convoluted thinking on this subject.

Sounds almost like you are a democrat apoalgist, although I have never thought so before.

Curiously I see that same theme repeating itself in Kens postings. He values/disvalues both parties equally, IMHO. But there is a vast difference that he is unwilling to admit, or see. There are many born again congressmen in the GOP, and very few, if any in the DP. O

You are misunderstanding me. I would love to see both major parties go bye-bye.

What I am saying is that, regardless of who supports amnesty for illegal aliens, the practical result of allowing amnesty will be millions of new voters who will vote overwhelmingly Democrat and wipe out the GOP in national elections, regardless of how anyone feels about the GOP.

When it comes to politics I care little as to whether they are born again. I care greatly if they support limited, constitutional government - regardless of party affiliation or lack thereof.
