The Democrats want to end the private retirement system that has allowed Americans to become a vast investor class and put them back in thrall of the federal government. This is nothing more than a second welfare system that would sit on top of the crumbling Social Security entitlement. It would leave the American working and middle classes with no retirement option other than a government handout.

If the Democrats control both Congress and the White House, kiss your 401(k)s goodbye, and get into the bread lines first before the crowd arrives.

Not planning on posting in the politics forum; however, I find this information rather troubling and want to share Ms. Ghilarducci's Congressional testimony:

    www.house.gov/ed_workforce/testimony/2008-10-07-TeresaGhilarducci.pdf

It appears from quickly perusing this that she has a huge preference for pension plans over 401(k)'s. Of course, Ms. Ghilarducci is entitled to her opinion. I disagree with her idea. And, frankly, I doubt it would pass both houses of Congress regardless of their makeup. For instance, I don't think that my Democratic representative nor my two Democratic senators would go along with such an idea.

Be very afraid. McCain should take advantage of this.

I wish that Senator McCain would, Pastor Mitchell. That would force Senator Obama to repudiate the idea.

I heard about this which is why I hate the thought of the Dem's having so much control in the house. I don't mind them being the majority but I prefer they need the republican's to keep them honest. I hope Obama veto's crap like this or he won't make a second term (if elected).

What really scares me is Barny Frank salivating and counting up his new taxing power. I forget what he said but I recall it being scary. I think Obama will give us the most and best change but I would like a house that will keep him in check.

The idea is to protect our dwindling 401K's but I think they should leave this alone. Once the market fixes itself our 401k"s will correct by default.

I disagree. The hidden agenda is to gain more power and further drive our country into communism.

Seriously, that was one of the Neo-Cons plans except they would have driven us to Fascism.

Well, Pastor Mitchell, some conservatives constantly claim that the Democrats want to make our country socialist/communist and some liberals constantly claim that the Republicans want to make our country fascist.

I think both groups are engaging in over-the-top political rhetoric when they talk like that. :)

We are already well on our way. The current welfare state is already way to far.

And liberals say that the Patriot Act is already way too far on our way to fascism.

When one takes a step back and looks at some of the political rhetoric in our country one can't help but see how comical some of the rhetoric is. :)

Where in the constitution does it give room for the patriot act?

That should show what is just rhetoric and what is of substance.

Don't count on it. Obama has plans for the 401k's. Just listen to this and you'll know this to be true.

Your statement is blatantly dishonest. However, all of America has come to expect dishonesty from the right-wing in this country(unfortunately, even from Christians among the right-wingers).

Your link has nothing to do with Senator Obama and his position on 401(k)'s.
