My hubby says the same thing Tater (after I gained 35 pounds).

I'm glad he still sees me thin, but it doesn't help my clothes fit!!!

For whatever it's worth, I found that the minute I dropped sugar from my diet (just a couple of weeks ago when I found myself showing possible signs of diabetes), I lost about fifteen pounds without even trying. Not going on the sugar bounce during the day means I don't find myself ravenous at times and stuffing my face with anything in sight.

The energy has gone up, too, which is lovely.

I had heard or read somewhere before that a bulge above the waistline indicated a nearing of diabetes, or a predisposition towards it in that condition. The part of me that flat out disappeared when I cut the sugar (and other sweets, too, actually, as well as potatoes, corn, and white flour goods) was that bulge. So maybe there is something to that?

Do I miss the sweets? A little bit, sometimes, but if I take just one small spoonful of ice cream when I am giving Barry his, that is quite enough. And I do make sure it is after a meal, so it gets mixed up with all the other stuff I'm digesting and doesn't just hit full force.

Our moving day to Oregon is Thursday, and I have already promised several of you I will get a blood sugar done within the next week or two once we are there.

(I received this in an email and it hit home - thought I would share - let us pray for each other)

    Proverbs 25:27

Gluttony, eating to excess. In my years of ministry, I could always get the "Amen corner" into my sermons when I preached against homosexuality, preached against the more visible sins. On those occasions when I preached on the sin of gluttony, it usually got very quiet. I realize this will be a difficult read for many today, but that is one reason I am here...to
    challenge you.

Let me say right up front, gluttony IS a sin. God said so. Anything that you do in excess, to your detriment, to the detriment of your ability to serve God, that is ahead of your daily relationship with God, is a sin.

Let me also add something very important. There are just as many skinny gluttons as overweight gluttons! Let me say that once more. There are just as many skinny gluttons as overweight gluttons. Being overweight can be caused by many things, and just because a person is heavy, does NOT mean they are a glutton. Again, ANYTHING that you put ahead of your relationship with the Lord is a sin. If you are a thin person, but put food ahead of your relationship with Christ, you are a glutton!

I know that during the Holiday season many sit down to some incredible feasts. I am not saying you shouldn't, and I am not saying you should not enjoy food. I believe God gave us food to nourish our body, our taste buds to enjoy food, and eating is a wonderful part of our life.
Gluttony however refers to eating in excess. I know many fine men and women of God that live tremendous lives and do great works for the Lord. However, this is an area that they struggle with and that is why I bring it to you
    today.

Like all sin, gluttony can be overcome, not in our own strength, but in His. Like all sins, if you fight this battle, you need a battle plan. God can give you that plan, the strength to carry it out, and the perseverance to get victory. Like in other sins though, the question becomes, do you really want victory? Do you really want to conquer this foe? Do you even recognize that this is a problem in your life?

At this point, you have either accepted through the prompting of the Holy Spirit that this is an issue in your life, or you have realized that this is not something that you battle with. If you are in the latter category, then I would encourage you to pray for those who do fight this battle each day.

I have no doubt that you know people in your family, school, workplace, church, that are going through this struggle. Pray for them today. Pray
that the Lord would open their eyes and show them this is a problem they need to deal with. Pray that they will have the courage, like anyone who is dealing with a specific sin, to admit it and allow the Lord to help them get victory over gluttony.

There is no use in hiding it or candy-coating the problem. It is time to recognize it as a problem, and get busy fighting it and letting God help you to become victorious over this battle in your life.

If you are struggling with gluttony today, I realize what a difficult struggle this can be. If you will take that first step, admit this is a problem, God will help you be victorious in this
    battle with gluttony!

    In his love and service,
Your friend and brother in Christ,
    Bill Keller

"They" say - whoever they is - that there is no one worse than a reformed drunk for condemning those who drink. I guess the same could be said for dieters. So with the risk of sounding like a reformed drunk let me say my piece.

My wife and I, along with about ten other folks at church have been on the South Beach Diet for over a month.

At a meeting last Saturday another pastor who had not seen me for a while looked at me and said, "Jim, you've lost weight and (I love this part) you look younger too!"

I am not - I repeat - I am not going back to that old way of eating. No Way. No time. Never.

I cannot recommend the South Beach Diet enough. Once you learn the principles - you do your own thing and you literally eat most of what you want to eat.

    Signed,

    A "younger", slimmer Jim

    Hardsheller/Jim,

I'm looking into the South Beach Diet myself. A lady at work let me borrow the book, and it really makes a lot of sense.

I've done Atkins, and it really worked. But then we came off of it, and went right back to what we always have done...eat.

Where I had lost 88 pounds, I have gained back half of it (last time I weighed).

My wife wants to do Weight Watchers, because you gat bread and pretzels and crackers...bread is her weakness. But I can't do it. I feel like I'm starving on WW. Not that you can binge on the South Beach plan, but you can be satisfied. And the goal of the South Beach diet is a healthy heart (heart disease runs in both of our families).

When my wife gets back in town, I'm going to try to explain all of this to her. Thanks for the testimonial...I'll use it, too.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

    Hey, Sue!

My wife is up in your neck of the woods! She's about 40 miles west of Jacksonville, Ill. She's visiting a friend of ours that moved back to Yankee territory.

Tomorrow she and her mom and our daughter are going over to Westfield, Indiana to visit my mother-in-law's step-cousin (long, long story), but they will be coming back across Illinois to get back to Bluffs (around Beardstown, where her friend lives).

    In Christ,
    Trotter

Don't know who recommended the Cabbage Dump but it is delicious.

I made it just a little different.

Venison Summer Sausage - sliced it and quartered the slices.

    1 head of cabbage

1 Quart of Yellow Tomatoes ( we canned them last summer)

    1 Vidalia Onion - quartered

Cooked it all in the crockpot and put a layer of shredded cheddar cheese on it before serving.

I definitely will use this one again.

    Jim,

You're loking at him. Well, actually, my wife came up with it, but it has proven to be a favorite of many.

Glad that you, and your church, liked it.

I'm usually the creative one in the kitchen, but since she left work to stay at home, she has really got into cooking. And I have really gotten into overtime, and don't have the time to cook much anymore.

    In Christ,

Losing weight..for FREE!!!! This Devotional is worth thousands of dollars to many of you, and is FREE!!!!

Over the past 58 months I have spoken many times on how our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, and how we should do all that we can to keep our temples in the best shape possible. I have spoken often about how it is our responsibility to be in the best physical shape possible to be able to serve God to our best ability for as long as we possibly can.

Today, for FREE, I am going to help you lose weight. MORE IMPORTANTLY, KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF without spending thousands on joining a health club, buying machines, or becoming a slave to the latest pills or juices that will cost you $50 a month and NEVER do what they promise.

There are two elements required to lose weight. First is exercise. You MUST be on a disciplined exercise plan and be faithful to that plan to burn
the calories necessary, not to mention the positive effects it has on your heart and muscles. Second is what you eat. There is NO way to lose weight, maintain your optimum weight, unless you are watching what you eat and drink. Sweets, soft drinks, alcohol, snack foods all have tons of calories that will put pounds on you.

If you are doing lots of exercise, you can get away with eating some things that are not the best for you to be eating, but you must be aware of all that you eat and drink. I hate to be over
simplistic, but the fact is, if you are exercising regularly and watching what you eat, you can and WILL lose weight and MAINTAIN your ideal weight.

Please let me add this VERY IMPORTANT fact. Everyone has their own ideal weight. Genetics DO play a factor in this, and how God created our bodies is an issue. There are some people who simply will carry more weight than others. There is NOTHING wrong with being what some may consider
overweight. Nobody can be the media's definition of perfect, nor should we try. We have to use common sense and accept the fact that some people are simply created to carry more weight than others. The key is, are you where YOU need to be at for YOUR body???

From the amount of emails that I get every day, I know that this is a major issue for many of you. Here is the secret. It is a battle like any other
battle you fight in life. It is first a spiritual battle. The strength you get to stick to your exercise routine, to eat the right things each day, do NOT come from a pill or from yourself, IT HAS TO COME FROM GOD!!!

You need to take the time each morning and pray to God for the strength and diligence to stick to your exercise plan and what you eat. IN YOUR OWN STRENGTH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE! People fail in their sincere efforts in this area because they have left out the spiritual element to it.

FORGET THE $50 A MONTH PILL OR JUICE AND REPLACE IT WITH PRAYER! All that pill or juice does is remind you that this is a commitment that you have made. Period. Prayer will not only remind you, but strengthen you to stick to it and see victory!!!

You don't need the latest pill or juice to lose weight. You need to exercise, watch what you
eat, and PRAY! That is the special element. God will give you the strength and motivation to get victory over this area of your life. He will help
    you.

Like in all things, when we are serious and ask God to help us, HE WILL!!! You can not only lose the weight you desire, but keep it off as long as you are willing to exercise, watch what you eat, and pray about this daily!

Losing weight and maintaining a certain weight is like every other battle we face. We must have a battle plan that we work faithfully each day, and that plan must include accountability to others and God. We aren't strong enough to get and maintain victory on our own. We need to have others in our life to hold us accountable and to keep us where we need to be in our day to day
actions. I realize that this is an issue with many who are reading this right now. Know today that there is hope, there is victory waiting for you!

Exercise, pay attention to what you eat, have people in your life who will hold you accountable to your exercise routine and what you eat, and pray daily for God to give you the strength and resolve to stick to the plan.

This is an important issue because the better you feel, the better shape you are in, the more fit you are, the better you will be able to serve and
glorify God with your life. After all, that is our ultimate purpose in this life.

    In His love and service,
Your friend and brother in Christ,
    Bill Keller

Sue I found some good looking cabbage recipes last night. They look low carb, not sure if they are diet recipes so I'm not sure where to post.

If it's mostly cabbage and meat, it's low carb - lol.

Post them wherever you think they fit. I will find them!

Truly struck a nerve with that one I Am Blessed 16 (re: the free weight loss from Bill Keller). I've recently started to believe that I need professional help, but who is more professional than my Heavenly Father? I think sometimes I feel like some things are trivial and that I shouldn't "bother" God with such trivial things (like weight loss) because I feel like such a failure to begin with ... why can't I just control what I eat and how much I eat ... time will tell ...

    Thank you for posting!

Because food taste so good and we need it to sustain our bodies(unlike cigs, drugs or firewater)...sometimes we "overdo" it. When we are not happy with ourselves, then we start thinking all sorts of things.

The Lord loves for us to "bother" Him with everything...and that's exactly what I do---bug Him alot! He's my doctor, my lawyer, my weight-loss coach, my counselor, my everything, etc...and I'm not meaning this in a disrespectful way either.

I didn't lose my 10# by July 1 that I wanted...only 7, but hey, now I have a NEW goal! I'm trying for another 7 & maybe I'll do better. It's so hard, the older you are.

I am praying for all of you who are struggling with weight-loss & ask that you remember me. I've already come more than 150#, & I can't give-up now, I'm too close to the end. I owe it all to the Lord...the loss, not the gain-that was my doings & I'm ashamed of it.

Wow granny, thats great. I am at right at my 70# mark.

And here is a vent. My inlaws had not seen me in a long time, and we saw them recently. I had lost 65 pounds, and guess what they said?? Nothing. Except they went on and on about how my FIL had lost 20 pounds and how good he looks. I dont need their affirmation, but I just wonder why they didnt say anything. Its a radical change, so I know they see it.

Kathy, I understand your struggle with food. I have never been willing to pay the price to lose weight until now. And now that there is visible progress, I am not stopping now. I feel so much better and more in control of my whole life. I still have a little to go, but its worth it. I'll be praying for you.
