The history buffs on the board might like to download the book free of charge from the Internet, The Fugitive Blacksmith by James W. C. Pennington, 1807-1870. Pennington was a slave in Maryland who was trained to be a blacksmith. He successfully fled to PA and years later wrote an account of his escape. The book was published in 1849.
