Over the next 3 weeks, and possibly over the next 6-8 months I will not be posting regularly to the BB.

I applied for a position with the US Border Patrol, and my test date is August 13, at 8:30 am. PST.

I ask that all those who pray, please keep me in your prayers over the next few weeks as I prepare for the written test.

If I do well on the test (God willing), I will be put through an extensive background investigation, psychiatric, and physical examinations.

Once those go well, God WILLING [IMG] , I will be shipped off to Charleston South Carolina for a 5 month Cadet Academy.

I have been told that it is similar to basic training for the military, which I have already been through.

I will be leaving my husband and 3 kids alone in California, so please keep them in your prayers.

God willing, I will be an active member of the Homeland Security team, protecting folks like you from terrorists, and drug dealers!

It has been a pleasure posting with all of you and I consider it a privilage to have been part of these discussions.

    God Bless you all!

Grace be unto you, and PEACE, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ,
    Kelly

Kelly: I wish the best for you and all God's graces. You will be in my prayers and I hope you keep me in yours. I hope you sail through acceptance and training. Our borders need all the help we can get.

    God Bless You,

    Kathryn

Hi Kelly, I will pray for you. [IMG]

Could you do me a favor and give some background as to why you decided to do this. You strike me as a "keeper at home" type of wife and mom so I am just curious as to why you would work full time and leave for training for 5 months (provided you get the job that is). This must have been a very difficult conclusion for you to reach. I am trying my best to not sound judgemental, please forgive me if I do. I really do wish you and your family all the best [IMG]

    In Christ,
    Brian

    Kelly,

I had a friend in my reserve unit who was a Border Patrol Agent. If you can handle Army basic training, you can handle anything they're going to hand you. I'm sure you'll do great!

To offer you a few quotes from my old platoon sergeant at Ft. Benning:

    - "When in doubt, do the right thing."

    - "Suck it up and drive on."

    - "It ain't nothing but a thing."

    Best wishes,

    Joshua

My heart and prayers go out to every person who is in the military, security, police/fire who are giving up some of THEIR freedom so that my family can enjoy OURS.

Cannot imagine the motivation to leave family et al to thus serve. I tried (during 'Nam) but found it too hard for me.

Good luck, Kelly. Try to pop in here from time to time, so the rest of us will have someone to argue with. :D Just kidding.

God bless, and I pray God will use you in this opportunity.

Thank you all for the prayers!

    Brian,
I was actually going to explain the whole thing, but wanted the opening post to be short, so here goes:

Before I met my husband, let me rephrase that - HOW I met my husband was very interesting.

I had just separated from the Air Force, divorced my athiest abusive husband, and accepted Jesus as my Savior and Lord!

I tested and was accepted to the California Highway Patrol. The Cadet Academy runs for six months from March-September and September-March. This was in November of 99 that I was accepted.

I decided to go see my family in Arkansas before I was unable to! SO, I went to AR, with the HOPE of returning to California in March of 00.

Needless to say, I didn't return. I met my husband on a 'blind' just as friends 'date', and it was 'love at first sight'. [IMG]

I knew that what God had led me to, was where He wanted me, so I gave up my LIFE LONG dream of being Bonnie on 'CHiPs', to get married and become an instant mom of three!

SO, I am not 'abandoning' my children, they are my step kids, and although I have taken them under my wing as my own, this August (just around the corner) all three will be going to school. I was planning on going back to work in the fall anyway.

SO, Kris and the boys will survive (and most likely BARELY) while I am gone.

My motivation is really simple. I have always wanted to be in Law Enforcement of some kind. Ever since I was 6 and saw CHiPs for the first time! Like a little boy, I told everyone I met when asked the 'what do YOU want to be when you grow up' question, "A Police MAN"!!!! :D I was quickly corrected by my blushing mother, "A Police WOMAN, sweetie!". Of course now we know the PC term- OFFICER. [IMG]

The reason I chose the Border Patrol is because it is the most important Law Enforcement agency in the Country RIGHT NOW. For the time being, the USBP are the brave souls who are working overtime to keep out terrorists.

I knew God was giving me the 'GO!' when I ran into an Agent in Petco. (buying mice for my snake) He said "The Highway Patrol (what I ALMOST joined) is laying off 400 officers, so that the US Border Patrol can hire 600!!

I knew that God had placed His hand of Providence in my way once again, not only by showing me what next step I should take, but by keeping me from joining the CHP in the first place! I probably would be one of the ones laid off! :(

SO, God willing, I will finally be doing what I have always wanted to do. The process is going really quickly. I applied online on July 4, and received my confimation letter the following Monday! It said on the site that the study packet and my test date letter would take 4-6 weeks to arrive and I got that this past Saturday! SO, I feel that with my Military backgroud, and that fact that I am young, heathly and a really fast learner, I should do really well.

All with God's help, of course!

My goal in life is to stay in His Will. I feel like this is where God is leading me to serve.

It doesn't really pay all that well, which you probably noticed that they only have to fire 400 CHP officers in order to hire 600 USBP Agents.

But that's ok. I want to be where I am needed most.

Thanks for asking Brian, and I didn't think you were being judgmental at all.

I will be updating this thread as more news comes in, test scores and what not, but between now and the 13th of Aug, I won't post. I am STUDYING.

    Jesus synem yevnefae kometlek!

    That means:

    Jesus is my friend

In this crazy artificial language I have to learn.

    God Bless,
    Kelly

    :D

I left another board once, that used to be REALLY active when I was there, and the other day I got a post indicator from there.

I was like "I didn't know I had post indicators there!", and went and looked, and it had been 9 months since anyone had posted to that board!!!

That is how long ago it was that I left. [IMG]

What can I say, I'm a pot stirrer.

    God Bless you,
    Kelly

    The best to you Kelly.
I admire a person with ambition, a goal and the means to pursue.
Time spent in pursuit of this worlds rewards is also God's will for us.
We are to toil and provide as well as worship and study God's word.
Jobs can be frustrating, but then so can bible debate...right ? [IMG]
You have chosen an honorable occupation.

Your actually going to leave your husband and children for any reason at all, can anything be more important then being with your children?

Kelly, I'm going to pray for God to not allow you to be accepted if you're going outside HIS will on this. When you married this man, even tho the kids are his, you became their mother. No matter what YOUR ambitions, the children and your husband MUST come first.

You've only been in this 'family' a very short time and children need stability. May God open your eyes to HIS will.

Also, don't worry that BB.com will die out when you leave! This board has become more active every day. I read here for over a year before joining this past Jan. (I think it was Jan.). When I first checked out the board, on an invitation from a couple who used to post here, it was quite slow and the board I administer was very busy. Now they've flip-floped. BB.com will survive even past the rapture. There are many who will be left behind to man the board and guide those who had not heard......

    Katie and Diane.

Do you think it is God's Will that our family live on beans and rice for two weeks straight?

Do you think it is God's Will that we do not have the money to put gas in our car?

Do you think it is God's Will for a woman who is able bodied and willing to sit at home and do nothing to help the situation?

Do you think that God blesses those who do not try to help the situation as much as they can?

Do you think that women who have children who are all in school are sinning by working while their children are at school?

God's Will will be revealed to me through His Providence, guidance and leading.

I have no ambitions to do this outside of His Will.

    I think I said that.

    God Bless,
    Kelly

And for some reason you think life is harder for you then anyone else? Nope, ot's hard for most all of us. But are we to do, go with God's biblical plan for us or not? Some pretty bad things can happen to a persons life, but God always uses it to make the very best for them. We all have somehting, it just comes under different names, we have soemthing painful in our lives, we all suffer in one way or another.
I've watched my kids go to bed with no food, be thankful you ahve some, we once went fishing to feed our kids, we once ate biscuits and bolied potatoes.
We used to not have a car at all, living in the country thats a serious problem. No way to the doctor or store unless someone will take you. We lived in not more then a shak, with pratically no heat in the winter, we burned wood, our water would freeze solid, we'd freeze in th same room as the heat source. I stayed homw and took care of my kids,a dn my husband provided what he could for us, and we were happy, never considering what we didn't have. I think God blesses those can not help themselves and admit to Him they are powerless. God gave Eve the duty of caring for nurturing her children, and Adam the duty of supplying their need. The women of the bible were first of all mothers, who took care of their children, thats God's direction to us, the bible. My oldest is 22, and through out all those years I have been home taking care of my boys, through the good and bad times, their were needs for a mother were first in my life. God will take care of all the rest.

Uh. NO. Life is what you make it. It doesn't HAVE TO BE hard. Life can, and SHOULD be pleasant, and abundant! We should live healthy, productive lives, all to the Glory of God! If we are sitting back, wallowing in self pitty, and not doing anything to better the situation, God is NOT going to bless us!
I agree. There have been some pretty bad things in my life already. I don't know if you read it but I provided my testimony in a thread about tongues, if you have time, read it. We do not need to suffer in this manner. When there is a way to solve it, we should do what is right, and solve it!
You say that as if I am NOT thankful! Give me a break lady! We praise God OFTEN for those beans and that rice! The kids and I have gotten quite creative in ways to make different things with beans and rice! I was not complaining. My point is simple. I have been shown a solution, after much prayer, and I am going to do it. It is NOT God's Will that kids go to bed without food! It is NOT God's Will that children in Africa are dying of hunger while American women spend $5,000,000.00 each YEAR on cosmetics!
Uh, you weren't powerless. You could have done something to fix that situation. You just named about 10 different things that were TERRIBLY wrong in your life, and then state that God BLESSED YOU??? How do you figure that you were being blessed while you were freezing and starving? That doesn't make sense to me. How did your husband get to work? Did he work? I grew up in a home where my father went to work six days a week (except sunday) for most of my childhood. He worked sometimes 12 hours a day so that we had a roof over our heads, food on the table, a car to go to the doctor in, and every once in a while some extra money to take us to McDonalds and get ice cream! My mother worked at night, sometimes THROUGH the night, so that we could get new coats and shoes! Did God bless us? Absolutely!! She always found the best deals, the best garage sales, the best clearance racks, to supply our needs, and she thanked God for all of it! Did any of us 5 kids ever feel 'neglected' when my Dad went on jobs that were out of state? Never. We missed him, sure, but we knew that when he came back we would all get to sleep sounder, because we were fed.

I don't want to sound harsh, but I don't feed into that line of thinking that laziness is going to be rewarded as long as we admit that we are helpless without God. We are helpless without God regardless of whether we work or not. It is when we put forth the effort, that God blesses.

Even when it is as simple as something as gathering cans off the side of the road (done that before).
I would be willing to bet money that Eve was RIGHT THERE WITH HIM harvesting the corn! God gave the Garden to BOTH OF THEM. They were BOTH to tend it. NOT just Adam. What do you suppose Eve did after her sons and daughters were grown? You think they had knitting back then? Eve is a help meet for Adam. Woman is a HELPER to the Man. That means HELP where help is needed. Does my husband need clean clothes? Of course. Does he need $2000 more each month than what we have right now MORE than that? YES. He can wash his own clothes for 5 months. My brother did his own laundry the whole time he was in college, and so did my Dad. Men are not helpless without us. My husband is fully capable of washing dishes as well, he helps me just about every night.
Well, I don't have any children of my own. I am on borrowed territory. And, way back when, those women had to wash clothes by hand, wash dishes by hand, line dry everything, and cook all day, just to have food ready for supper! Times have CHANGED. The History in in the Bible is not a directive. What did the 'virtuous woman' do?
Prov 31:10. Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
    11. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
    12. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
    13. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
    14. She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
    15. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
    16. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
    17. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
    18. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
    19. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
    20. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
    21. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
    22. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
    23. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
    24. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
    25. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
    26. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
    27. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
    28. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
    29. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
    30. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
    31. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Sounds like she was doing a whole lot more than just sweeping the floors and making fish.

Well, I'm glad to hear that they have all survived the tough times, surely God is blessing you now, seeing that you have a Computer, and the very costly internet access. ;)

My first priority is to my husband, and he wants me to work. So to work I go. God's Will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

My kids are fourth in my life.

    1. Husband
    2. Christ (his Head)
    3. God (His Head)
    4. Kids

If I go to college, I will be spending hours each day at school, and hours each night studying, for 4 years.

If I go to the US Border Patrol Academy, after 5 months I will have a career that will not only get us out of debt, but provide for our family where my husbands income is lacking, AND provide medical benifits for our entire family.

If I do neither, we will drown.

We have already tried the 'sit around and let God WORK HIS WONDERS!!!' method, and He has shown us that He expects more from us than that.

    God Bless,
    Kelly

Kelly, have you asked your church for help? There should be no need to live on beans and rice if you are a member of a church.

No one in your church knows a dentist who will contribute his talents to your needs?

No one in your church can help your husband improve his job situation?
