From my own experience, I have met & known preachers who are of Independent Baptist leanings who almost pride themselves in the fact that they support missions through the local church & not through a denomination. I've heard it said (and was taught to an extent) that the Biblical model of missions was always through a local church context. I am a Southern Baptist (by choice) & am thrilled that there are over 5,000 Southern Baptist missionaries around the world through the Cooperative Program. We, as a local church, give to the Cooperative Program to support these 5,000 missionaries & we have missionaries come to our local church to share their hearts with us. Here's the question - why the pride in supporting a few missionaries & the antagonism towards a denomination (like the SBC) that does it somewhat differently & supports thousands of missionaries?
