Has anyone seen this mini-series? I have and thought it was very interesting and informative. If you are a history buff and haven't seen it, it is available on Comcast On Demand. I think there are 5 parts. I give it my LE 5 thumbs up award. It is probably available on line or DVD, too.

Yes, I saw the one about Tesla/Edison--AC/DC and the money behind them. J.P. Morgan was backing Edison. We have both kinds all around us--also a lot of static. Our car's electrical needs after starting are from an alternator--an AC/DC device.

It is interesting to see how the love of money and materialism play out on the world-wide scene. We have all of these clever electrical gadgets on which we are totally dependent. We have recently seen(Sandy) how bad it is when the A/C power goes off and the D/C batteries go dead.

"All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God; there are none righteous, not one."

    Even so, come Lord Jesus.

Just found out it comes out on DVD in January, but thinking I may pre-order the series, wouldn't mind having this one.

Anyway, for those interested, you can read about it at the link.

Bro. James, I thought it was interesting that Rockefeller was a Baptist.

Never knew he was from Cleveland, Ohio, that there was a lot of oil in that area. I wonder if the drilling ever stopped. And to think they are just discovering the shale in Ohio and Pa. But I digress.

We depend on so much from the discoveries and innovation of these men, who did become greedy, but who also enriched our lives to the standard of living that we enjoy today.

I believe Rockerfeller family was from NY state but moved to Ohio for better work environment. Anyway I was not keen on there portrayal of him or Vanderbilt or Frick. With
Carnage they were dead on. I was also wondering why they did not do an expose on Andrew Mellon.

From what I gather, this was Season One, so maybe there are more seasons coming???

I found it interesting that Henry Ford paid people a living wage without fighting unions and that Harley and Davidson teamed up to add a gasoline engine to a bicycle and thus, the first motorcycle. Fascinating stuff.

Yea I love that stuff. Henry Clay Frick actually cornered the market in Pennsylvania for Coke (as in the material made from coal) for use to heat & melt iron in the manufacturing of steel. Andrew Mellon financed him in that enterprise... thats how Frick connected with Carnagie. He later moved to Manhattan & collected allot of art that you could see at the "Frick Collection" in NYC.

My son did a class project where he presented Henry Ford (completely in character of Ford) & we helped research him. Interesting stuff.

Henry Ford: I missed that segment. There is an interesting story about Henry, his gasoline carbouretor(sic), gasoline engines vs. electric powered cars, and oil companies. The big money people manipulated such things as normal.

The union account of Henry and solidarity is not at all amicable. Henry was violently opposed to the UAW in the beginning. Union contracts are not written for gentle-men.

As far as I can tell, it is not by Ken Burns. It is a documentary but is told more like a story and has a lot of actual footage and photos from the Library of Congress. Excellent acting, as well. Very informative. You would like it, blackbird. :)
