    >I conclude that the increase in income has been exaggerated. Published government spending data by income quintile show that the ratio of spending between the top and bottom 20 percent has essentially not changed between 1985 and 2010. In terms of total spending, inequality has diminished slightly, rather than increased.

After one has several billion in investments, what does additional income have to do with spending? Mrs. Romney only needs 2 Cadillacs. If her old man suddenly got a big raise would she suddenly need 4 Cadillacs? How many more billion must they have before she needs two more cars?

The ">" is a ten year old custom for indicating the statement following it is a quotation. ">>" is a quotation that precedes ">" and so on. This system maintains the chronological order of the quotations. It reduces the size of posts.

I DON"T think the increase is exaggerated.

Then why not use the quote function provided by BB. That is much eaiser to deal with.
It appears you are the lone ranger with ">"

ps should I mention that ">" also means "less than"

Been doing it this way for 15 years. Your way does not specify chronological order, does it? If every website used a different convention . . . ok, Baptists want to be different. <G>
