Uh? First you asked about divine rights and now it is inherent rights--what do you mean?

God is going to give the Jews the land--there is no doubt about that.

Neither the US government nor the Christian has to support Israel, right or wrong. However, I am not going down the road to another holocaust. It is the Arabs in Israel who are fish out of water. The Turks overran Israel for what--400 years? All they could do was turn it into a wasteland. Look at the Arab countries--they are already wastelands. Allah cannot make Gaza bloom for the Arabs anymore than Satan could make Gaza bloom for the Philistines, people from the Greek isles. Satan is not as smart as God, is he?

    Okay "divine, inherent rights" ;)

God is going to give the Jews the land, does that mean this present State of Israel?

A state, a nation with equal status with the other nations of the world, self governing and self determining.

    Roger,

If your question is "Does Israel have a right to exist in the land that they now inhabit?" the answer is absolutely yes. They do have the right.

If your question is "Does Israel's right to the land they now inhabit stem from biblical or divine promise?" the answer is no.

Israel rejected God and the consequence was the termporary loss of inhabitance in the land. They did not forever lose that right as the OT and Galatians make clear. But their "divine right" will be restored when they repent and accept the Messiah, Jesus. Right now, they have the same rights as any other country on this earth ... to live in peace from attacks and terrorism in their land.

My purpose was to focus on the right of a Palestinian State to exist in lands which God has eventually promised to give to the Jews.

Some people would disagree that God has promised to give it to the Jews. These are most likely the same people who believe the book of Revelation is allegorical. And who believe the promises to the Jews (Israel) were already fulfilled in the OT. Granted, this is certainly not the prevalent view among most Baptists, but it is a view, nonetheless. I find it impossible to have a genuine discussion on any of these matters.

If you can't have a common ground as the basis for discussion, like whether the Bible prophecies are allegorical or literal, then there is no point in having a discussion. :(

I don't know. It seems like there seems to be lots of common ground among the posters here. Seems to me that we are having a good, productive discussion.

I feel the same way, Joseph, and I do not see Revelation as allegorical. I do believe God will give all of this land to Israel in His time. My question is - is the present state of Israel the same people to whom God made His promise? That is the major point of this thread. I think we are having a very profitable discussion.

Are you referring to the 10 'lost' tribes of the Assyrian deportation, Roger? Or the Khazars?

Don't know enough about all of that. I beleive the promise was made to the Jews, God's chosen people, the descendents of Abraham.

    Try this link for starters

    (Or just Google the name...)

This speculates on the Khazar (a people of Turkish origin from Mongolia who ruled southern Russia from the 7th to 10th centuries AD) origins of many modern Israelis...I don't have an opinion one way or another but just find it interesting in the light of your "are they the same people" comment

Sorry - that was my question. I don't have a view. Is the modern state of Israel the same people to whom God promised the land through Abraham?

Possibly not in at least some measure if the theory that the Khazars were the ancestors of the bulk of the Askenazim (Eastern European Jews), the surviving members of whom by and large emigrated to Israel after the Holocaust...

Now you are getting through this thick skull of mine ;) .

I contend that even IF these people are Biblical descendents of Abraham that does not give them claim to the entire land. This is a political state existing now, bit a "religious" one.
