Does anyone have an opinion concerning the merger of Southwide Baptist Fellowship, Baptist Bible Fellowship and World Baptist Fellowship, which spurred the reclaiming of the true Southwide (according to it's charter)to be held at Gospel Light in Walkertown?

When did this happen? Is this something that resulted from that IBN meeting in Chattanooga?

I was refering to IBN in the original post, that is where the action was taken to elect new officeers to a southwide fellowship which would honor the tradition and charter of southwide baptist fellowship

I found this page, thought it might be of interest:

    SALTY

    (FROM THE WORLD BAPTIST FELLOWSHIP)

Mark you calendar as well for the 2004 Fall Meeting which will be held September 26-29, 2004 at the Highland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This will be a combined meeting of the World Baptist Fellowship, the Southwide Baptist Fellowship, the Baptist Bible Fellowship and other groups. There will be preachers on the program representing each Fellowship. WBF preachers on the program will be Dr. Wayne Martin, Dr. David Bryant and Rev. Danny Moody. On Tuesday morning, September 28, 2004 each Fellowship will hold its individual meeting followed by a great Missionary Rally.

Alan and Kathy Hart have returned to the field of Portugal following their furlough. Pray for them as they get settled down and back into the work there. Bradley and Ronda Hastings will return to New Zealand in May. Pray for them as they begin a new work in a suburb of the capitol city of Wellington.

Please continue to pray for Bro. Jack Weaver in his battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS). He is doing as well as could be expected at this time. Other missionaries who need your prayers for health problems are: Sandy Janky, Debi Harris, Monnie Bacon, Gloria Higgins, Mary Gagnon, Lanny Wood, Joe Hawkins, Cecil Henderson.

Your faithfulness in prayer and financial support of our missionaries and the General Fund is appreciated. We are truly co-laborers together with God in the great work of world evangelization. Thank you for all you do in support of our missionaries.

Since I am a "northern" Baptist, terms like Southwide and World Baptist that are "southern" mean nothing.

    Any illumination for us yankees?

The World Baptist Fellowship is a successor to Norris ' Premillennial Missionary Baptist Fellowship and later to World Fundamental Baptist Missionary Fellowship.

The Baptist Bible Fellowship International was formed as a split from the World Baptist Fellowship following a disagreement between Norris and the president of Norris' Bible Baptist Seminary; Norris booted the president, who joined with other pastors to form the new organization.

Southwide Baptist Fellowship has been centered around Dr. Lee Robertson's Highland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga. It includes many former SBC churches (including Highland Park); John Rice also was associated with the fellowship.

    The Southwide Baptist Fellowship, Baptist
Bible Fellowship, and World Baptist Fellowship
did not merger into one group. The three separate fellowships remain. They only agreed
to cooperate together in some areas in the Independent Baptist Network.

I was present at the Southwide's business meeting. It is inaccurate to claim that it
"spurred" its historic positions. One of Dr. John R. Rice's son-in-laws pointed out at this meeting that the Southwide had not changed its positions as was being claimed.
