It will be interesting to see how the rule changes affect the scoring. Especially the one that makes two line passes legal. I think we will see forwards who have speed, dominate the scoring, as they will be able to out skate the defense.

This of course will causes defesnes to play differntly as well. They will have to not press forward as much, but play deeper in their zone.

Anyhow, lets bring it on! I'm ready for Lord Stanley's Cup to come home to Detroit once more.

'Cause baseball isn't interesting until the Stanley Cup is decided. That and the As and Giants are out of the playoffs.

I grew up in L.A. where there is no hockey and moved to Philly, where everything is hockey.

I hated it until my new stepfather took me to a game in 1977. After that, I couldn't get enough.

Did anybody catch Keith Primeau's interaction with the fans when he was in the penalty box tonight?

    That was pretty cool.

What happend? I didn't get to see the game. :(

The Red Wings play the Blues tonight. Many members of the sports media are calling Detroit a mediocre team. I really don't know, they lost a lot of talent, but they still have a bunch of talent as well.

The new rule changes favor teams with speed which the Red Wings have in plenty. I also think the days of the grind it out defensmen are over, as there the refs are going to be more stringent. Speed will be the key to winning.
    GO WINGS!

He was wired with a mic for the TV broadcast.

About halfway through the second period, he got sent to the penalty box and when the camera panned back over to him, he was standing on the bench with crowd of fans crowded around him.

It turns out that one of the fans had leaned over the glass to ask him what happened because nobody in the crowd saw any infraction. Primeau turned around to address the crowd and was explaning the new rules to everybody.

I just thought it was cool that he would take the time to do that. Looked like they were having quite a party.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over that.

The Red Wings at 70% are still better than a lot of teams at 100%.

Besides, don't they say that about everybody?

The Atlanta Braves are a mediocre team because _____left. The couldn't be mediocre if you put a gun to their heads.

The Eagles dump marquee players every years, yet they've gone deep in the playoffs every year.

    They'll be fine.

Look at who the Flyers dumped in the off season(s): LeClaire, Recchi (who still lives up the street from my sister in Haddonfield, NJ, by the way) and Roenick.

They're still going to the finals this year.

I wonder how Mark Howe would play in today's league.

Here are the scores from opening day.

    Wed Oct 5, 2005

    NY Islanders 4
    Buffalo 6

    Atlanta 0
    Florida 2

    Montreal 2
    Boston 1

    NY Rangers 5
    Philadelphia 3

    Columbus 2
    Washington 3

    Carolina 2
    Tampa Bay 5

    Pittsburgh 1
    New Jersey 5

    Calgary 3
    Minnesota 6

    San Jose 2
    Nashville 3

    Ottawa 3
    Toronto 2

    Anaheim 5
    Chicago 3

    Los Angeles 4
    Dallas 5

    Colorado 3
    Edmonton 4

    Phoenix 2
    Vancouver 3

The Rangers over the Flyers was a big upset. The Flyers look like they are stacked, but they loose to one of lower end teams in the league. sweet!

I was also surprised at Pittsburg loosing to NJ, though NJ is still a great team in the east.

Oh and Detroit did down the Blues 5-1, wow. Pavel Datsyuk scoved 96 seconds into the came.

It's so refreshing to see a team with the name "Anaheim" still in it.
